Maybe not. There's this band called "The Postal Service" on SubPop. They have a video. The new Apple w/ Intel ad (you no doubt saw during the Golden Globes last night like 14 times) is basically a straight rip of the Postal Service's video for their song "Such Great Heights."[This](http://images.freshfjord.com/spunker/movies/thespunker.com.appleintelvspostalservice.mp4) is a QT movie of the commercial on the left with footage from the video on the right. [This](http://images.freshfjord.com/spunker/movies/thespunker.com.thepostalservice.suchgreatheights.mpg) is the unedited Postal Service video. That's pretty weak.

damn. that is weak. goes right back to the previous topic of "temp track love" - except this time it applies to video, and they didn't even bother trying.

This is the second time Apple has run into problems with its ads looking like previously created productions. The last was with an Eminem ad looking like an old Lugs ad.

While some marketing person at Apple signs off on this stuff, I'm going to place the blame on their agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day, for now screwing this up twice in a row. Apparently, folks at Intel weren't entirely jazzed about the ad either; Apple only showed them right before the Macworld keynote last week.

For those who need more, the Cult of Mac (not quite as fan-boy as it sounds) has further details: http://wiredblogs.tripod.com/cultofmac/index.blog?entry_id=1387553

the lamest part is it's THE GOD DAMN POSTAL SERVICE.

man ... is there anything more repulsive than indie-ok synthpop?

**joe** (2006-01-17):

Ahh. But look at all the buzz it's generating. Isn't the saying that "any exposure is good exposure?"

Maybe the marketing/advertising folks know what they're doing after all.

**Chris Randall** (2006-01-17):

True, that. This is like manna from heaven for that band. Viz. their skills or lack thereof, I've seen/heard a lot worse indi-pop than this. I don't like it at all to begin with, but as the genre goes, it is part of it.

Not to get too off-topic, but the Postal Service album was the first album I ever preordered (I know, I'm a young whippersnapper). It also singlehandedly taught me the value of never ever preordering anything.

**satchvaisoul** (2006-01-17):

Some of the postal services songs are pretty good I have to say, go ahead and flame me .. I dont care! :) ... - but yeah, Apple needs to get a grib on there ads.

**DaveAA** (2006-01-18):

Is it possible that this was done with the co-operation (or buy-out) of the Postal Service video makers?

**asinine** (2006-01-18):

Same director, kids...

**Wade Alin** (2006-01-18):

i was gonna say (same director) . . still, it's one of the least creative ads ever, and a big disappointment coming from apple.

W

**Ataru** (2006-01-18):

haha, if it's the same director, then the joke is on everyone making a big deal about this.

**Johnny** (2006-01-18):

Sure it can be seen as weak . That said the apple as is ALL about computers, chips and rooms like the one seen. The same director might have used the same room that was made for the music video . Apple paid someone to direct a video and paid people to do marketing . If its the same director he has ever right to rip himself , no? And as for the other video apple ripped off. . Thought that other company was full of shit.

And the number 1 video download on ITMS is...
