Good Adam A7 News...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

Minor change…

It seems that the demand for the A7 is going to significantly exceed our expectations. This will allow us to build them a bit less expensively than we thought. Consequently, we are going to change the US sell price to be what we had originally wanted it to be - $999 per pair.

That is good news, indeed. At $1199, I thought these were the ones to beat. At under a grand, they’re going to be the most popular project studio monitors on the planet inside a year. I’m getting a pair. Are you?

damnit, another cool thing that I probably wont be able to find or even listen to here in tokyo without taking out another loan against my kidneys.

Shit, man. You only need one. Seriously. This is gear we're talking about.

(Although, in thinking about it, I'm not sure I could find a taker for one of _my_ kidneys. They've been through a lot. Or, rather, a lot has been through them.)

That's wicked, and no money for what you'll get!

+/- 3db at 46Hz is pretty nice in the low end for a speaker that size.

What do you like especially about the adam monitors? Just curious, because I really need to buy some new speakers soon.
From what I´ve heared so far I like the Dynaudio BM5A much (and the new Tannoy Precicions), but found the the Adam P11 for example harsh, not very pleasant... Yes, I know studio monitors are not supposed to sound nice, but I like when they do.
I guess You havent´t heared the A7s yet, what makes You so sure that they blow anything else out of the water? Beeing not a "pro-audio guy" I appreciate any enlightenment!

i had a pair of tannoy reveals and i found them harsh and lacking in the bass end of htings plus they were horrible in long mixing sessions.. my ears fatigued rapidly. i have dynaudio Bm6a's and i like them a lot. lots of detail and a good solid bottom end for my small room anyways- i avoid tannoys like the plague. though i did work in a studio that had some old BSM10's that were great. really, you should just listen to a bunch of monitors and see what you like and keep the size of your room in mind.

these adams look like a good deal and i'm gonna check them out too.

Mainly it's just the specs vs. the price, and the reputation of the company. I suppose it's possible they'd put out a dog, but unlikely. Adams are rather bright; as a result, your mixes sound "smooth" or "warm" on other monitors/speakers because you tend to roll off the highs a bit more than you normally would.

Also, after playing a couple thousand shows, my high-end hearing isn't what it used to be; I need a brighter monitor so I can tell what the fuck is going on.

(Word to the wise: don't ever step foot on stage without earplugs in. Seriously.)

i'm definitely getting a pair... i never got used to my event ps6's because i mix/monitor on headphones so much (living in apartment complexes puts a damper on things sometimes, to say the least). The low end on those is about the same... it's the high-end response and reputation that's had me interested since the beginning. it's great to see an affordable pair, at last.

I think that the right word for Adam's tweeter is detailed, not harsh.
As it can move faster than a normal tweeter it reproduces transient in a really precise way.
I'm a Dynaudio user (in studio we have M1, M3 custom surround, and Air 15), but I'm planning to get s3a as soon as I get some money...
A7 would be cool, but I need more volume, to hype the clients!!!!!!!

i just moved to a pair of Genelec 8030A's that i LOVE.

i need to hear these ADAM's first. They are borderline for what i need.
price is right but i dont know if its enough power.

i'll be needing a larger pair for the soffit mounts this summer,
candidates are Mackie HR824's (not cause i like them, cause they're very different to the Genelecs, so thats good for referencing), HR626's, Tannoy Precision 8 Passives, and these ADAM A7's.

if ADAM made an A8 with about 50 more watts in the amp, i'd pay $1400 for it tomorrow.

  11. Chris Randall

I think your wish may be granted, Adam. I can't see how they'll avoid doing a whole kevlar-coned line; a slightly bigger pair with 80W or 100W amps and 8" drivers would be the logical next step.

Especially if they clean house on these, which looks likely. Dropping (!!?!?!) the estimated street on the A7 before they are even released is a good sign. I'm even willing to bet you we'll see A-series midfields at the next AES.

i hope so, the next AES is just around the corner and i'll be shopping for that pair of monitors in July.

and as you alluded to a few days ago, there is NOTHING cooler than having your own name on the monitors. heh ha ha.

  13. drben

i know they're, like, the new big thing, but adam monitors are very room dependent, sometimes they can be harsh as anything, sometimes milky pure. worth testing at home, and not a good bet if you're nomadic...

  14. meto

    that was helpful, thanks all!

DaMN! Now my P11As are worthless ;P

A warning to potential Adam owners in the US. I had an asst. of mine inadvertantly blow the tweeters in mine. One supplier in the US and they charge an enormous... check that... outrageous amount of money for those replacement ribbon tweeters. Way... WAY... out of line.

Of course I had them fixed... they sound too good, damnit.

I just recieved my A7s last week and I am so impressed that I felt the need to post some quick and unscientific first impressions. First of all, my speakers seem to have some malfunctioning volume pots, in that the detents do not increase in a logarithmic way. One detent is just right and the next step up is suprisingly loud. This is the type of error I would expect from the first production run of any active speaker. The pots are also sloppy to boot. But, this is easily managed for a first adopter like me. I would recommend others in less dire need of monitors to wait or be willing to deal with RA#s. Having said that, I have audtioned and mixed on most of the popular monitors in and a bit above this price range and can say with confidence that these are BY FAR the most accurate, non-fatigueing and detailed monitors. I personally believe that the Genelec 8030a and Dynaudio BM5a seem boxy and less detailed respectively. That's all I have time to say for now.
