Hard-Core Gear Porn Friday!!!
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

Time to cue up “Thus Spake Zarathustra” because the Monolith is here, and we’re about to start hitting each other with bones. The above multi-vendor system is owned (or rather was owned, as it is now “30% more wee”) by one Vogelsheiss. My German is rusty, but I’m pretty sure that means “hot chicken” or something. Anyways, Charles Graef (which is his real name, I assume, since “Hot Chicken” doesn’t work too well with the ladies. Well. maybe German ladies…) is unique among our HCGPF representatives inasmuch as the MP3s available on his site are actually quite good. Like, really good. Good enough that I’ll ignore that 1402 just sitting there, all out in the open and naked-like.

that probably works much better with most of the german ladies I've known. then again I'm pretty sure they were not representative of the overall germanic female population...
And some people, for reasons passing understanding, swear by the DP4. Go figure. So that's okay.

Irony == HCGPF is link-clicking day, HCGPF inevitably ends up being Mackie/Behringer bashing day, GoogleAds then adds more links for Mackie/Behringer. Ergo, if everyone bashes and clicks, Mackie/Behringer must really appreciate AI.com which, nearst I can tell is about as Mackie/Behringer unfriendly as one can get.
Okay, Wade, pony up: WHICH SE-70 effect? You couldn't pry my SE-70 away from me with a crowbar, but that's mostly because of the 21-band vocoder and I'm betting that's probably not your favorite. I've used one of the guitar chains to very good effect also, though.
I like my DP/4 also, but mostly for its 8-Voice Chorus and its odd quirks, like the tendency for its delays to blow up in weird ways at high feedback settings.

Quoting MR. Weeks "I actually have vogelsheisses old synthesizers.com 44 space cabinet - he moved to concentrate on the doepfer and I had 44 spaces worth of modules I needed a cabinet for."
hehe it took me only 3 months to nearly destroy the g2 i got for 22 of those spaces. One good thing about the dotcom modular is, it aint easy to drop. Its nearly impossible to move it really, but nontheless hard to knock off the back of a car, to the street... like a jackass.
:)
>>Okay, Wade, pony up: WHICH SE-70 effect?
wow, it's been YEARS since I had the factory settings installed. Let's see. I think it was originally called "Radio Voice." Turned on the reverb, delay, just about everything - and now it makes every vocalist I record sound like Toni Haliday. Even men, it's makes men sound like Toni Haliday.
Wow...
I think hes going to get his gear license revoked. I was under the impression that if you had a modular taller than you are that you were only allowed to make space music.
More mackie abuse...

$0.03 mass-produced op-amps are fine with me if they spent $250k to develop them.
What am I missing here?

The Mackie bashing will never get old and is a vital part of HCGPF.
We never seem to get the opposite though. I want to see a stack of Casios plugged into some uber Neve console.
Being in smart ass mode today, I think Mackie ought to spent $250k on spellchecking their web site. Or is 'Esoteriec' some l33t new term I am not aware of? ;-)
Cheers
Chris
From the Mackie site -
>>>A mic preamp should be able to protect itself from destructive external forces.
CR, I'm pretty sure you qualify as a destructive external force.

heh. synthesizers.com just doesn't get much love, huh? ;)
I actually have vogelsheisses old synthesizers.com 44 space cabinet - he moved to concentrate on the doepfer and I had 44 spaces worth of modules I needed a cabinet for.
I should take some shots of everything and submit for a HCGPF, no mackie or behringer but I do have a tasty Yammy mixer for submixing some string synths and a DP/4 and SE50 ;)

>>and SE50 ;)
I'll back you up on the SE50. I have a SE70 from about 12 years ago. I use one effect from it, and I use it on EVERYTHING. ; )
W
I love the SE50 - though I've pretty much been stuck on the multi-tap delays. The DP4's reverbs are good and muddy and running delays in series through the reverb pretty much destroys any sound I put through it.
Darren - sorry about the G2! Hopefully it's serviceable?
So now Wade's got me wondering if I can hack a similar preset on my SE50. I want to sound like Toni Haliday, though I believe I'd need the SE70 to do it. I'll have to hunt the bay over the next few weeks :D
