Hard-Core Gear Porn Friday!!!

Another studio one this week. I’ve been obsessing over outboard the last two weeks, as my posts here no doubt show. One of the objects of my fancy is the Purple MC77, the excellent modern clone of the 1176. Purple Audio is actually an offshoot of Coral Sound. Another offshoot of Coral Sound is Exile, a strictly-analog studio in LIC. (Strong Island, represent! Or, maybe not, actually. Whack the “Exile” link on their c. 1997 frame-a-thon.) This studio is really nice. I could see myself tracking there. (But not mixing, I don’t think. I’m more of a K2/Brittania Row kind of guy when it comes to mixing in Real Studios.) Their gear list reads like a Who’s Who of good vintage shit. Check the rack pictures, then get back to me.

Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the synths in the studio, but their collection is impressive, including an OCTave Cat, a Voyetra 8, two EML 101s and a 400/401, and a 12 (!!!) panel Serge. They also have a Hohner clav, a B3, and two (!!!!) Wurli 200s. I’m glad there aren’t any pictures, because the outboard alone made me a little crazy, what with the Eventide Collection, an EMT 140 and 250 (now, that’s just ostentatious.) Never you mind that
Neve A4345 just sitting there looking pretty.

In short, Exile is the bomb-diggity, as far as analog recording goes. Perhaps someone from there will read this, and send us some pics of the synth and guitar amp collections? That’d be just peachy.
