I think it's a new breed, the fucktard genius.
I'm leaning towards just being someone who got really really bored with playing classical.
But whoever put that video together, clearly fucktard.

I don't know the full etymology of the word fucktard, but I assume the "tard" part implies a retard, and the "fuck" part implies that it is "his own fuckin' fault" (The person wasn't born an actual retard, it was a personal lifestyle choice).
In this case, and in his honour, I submit the work Fuckwiner be created... mostly because I couldn't think of anything that funny to go with fuck, which in itself isn't a very entertaining word any more.
it sounds like pseudo gypsy techno. you see videos like this coming out of eastern europe sometimes. ever seen the one of the hot serbian chick who plays the keytar and lifts her legs to show off shapely bare thighs during her flashy memorized solos? it's as ifif they put music into the olympics on par with figure skating.
Holy Shit. I thought the name "Ethan Winer" sounded familiar. That guy has written some seriously good articles on acoustics and home recording in a some popular magazines. I learned almost everything I know about acoustical treatment and studio design from his website and forum posts. His "realtraps" acoustic panels are superb and will outperform the crap out of anyhting from auralex. I had no idea he was also such a talented cellist and composer! Definitely Genius! Where does he find the time!
I'm going with Genius on this for a few reasons.
1. While perhaps the cheeziest part of the video, the little tribute to his cat that died is sweet.
2. Totally not the guy you would expect would/could produce ANYTHING like that if he were in front of you at Dunkin' Donuts.
3. He uses Soundforge and Sonar (my DAW of choice)

i don't care how popular she is or what she's singing, i'm _glad_ that her Later performance finally drove it into millions of people that looping tools can be incorporated into a song-based context instead of considered tools only for Robert Fripp clones like myself.
besides, he's not looping ... he's multitracking. there is a difference.
people like Travis Hartnett, Andre LaFosse, and Zoë Keating have been doing this shit for _years_ longer than Tunstall. if there is a "KT Tunstall Effect" then we can only hope that it increases the visibility of the older and less visible song-oriented looping artists.

Video: Okay, so the video is about 80% the same as you'd see from Revolting Cocks, 15% unusually cool, and 5% creepy weird-guy stuff. I'd have to say Genius minus one.
Re: strong asthetic vs. weak image. That's generally how it goes. Paul Klipsch was a goofy fellow as was Einstein, etc.
Ethan is rather accomplished. And apparently a nice guy too based on his GS posts. He's an expert in a acoustics and dispenses his knowledge quite freely.
