Are you fucking kidding me?
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
Take everything you ever knew about fucktards in the music industry and just throw it out the window. This guy trumps all. The bit that cracks me up is the “up to $900,000” music tour. (Music tour?) When SMG was at its height, c. 96/97, our burn rate on the road was about $300K a month. And that was ten years ago. And we sure as FUCK didn’t have any “five star” accomodations. Mostly we slept on the bus. This cat is fucking offensive. But on the bright side, he does have Internet Downloading Capabilities. Maybe he’ll see this and challenge me to some mano a mano fisticuffs or something. (Thanks, bringmeup, for ruining my night.)
BUT WAIT: Check it. This fucknut has a real live website. Dear sweet baby jesus. I couldn’t help but hit the photo gallery of Diamond Dave’s big budget million dollar private-jet havin’ studio. Remember that guy that had the “pro studio built around an i30”? That guy had pretty nice kit compared to Dave. Now, I’m not gonna begrudge someone their project studio, and in this business, perception is 9/10 of the package, but still and all, you gotta draw the line between fudging a bit and out-and-out bullshit.
We are currently looking for partners, investors there is no risk factor. company is honest and truthful.
Yeah? How ‘bout I give ol’ Butch a call and see how he liked his Diamond Dave experience?

Sweet Lord Jesus. I hope this marks the all time low. That actually made me nauseous.
Only way you can make up for this is bringing us some news on the Pulse Filter.

i didnt understand even one fucking thing, who is this guy and why exacly does he want my money?! LOL
is this the sort of people record companies contact in order to set up tours and recording sessions?
That guy got some pics from his slideshow copy and pasted straight from a Full sail ad.I shit you not.
Yeah, and the screenshots to prove he watched "Mix it Like a R---"
Makes me feel better about things in general. Yeah.
a pro-class engineer with a pro-class crap webcam/light/headset
He's using his Xbox headset inbetween gaming to talk to someone. He has the Internet after all.
But seriously, all the money he makes (up to $900,000 for a tour) probably goes to feed his coke habit, hence the shoddy webcam/studio/hairstyle.
This guy is all kinds of full of sh*t...
and I second the motion on the FullSail pics. This guy is a LAMER...
definite FT...
on top of it all, the youtube recording has this intense 60 hz hum running through it
Why y'all playa' hatin'? Jus' cos' you ain't attained coveted "Grand Master Supastar Engineer" titles like the DD103? You ain't got no 'CD store', neither. How many package tours you done, son? Rekka'nize, bitches! Oops. Gotta go, my wife Jennifer Garner is callin'
What are you fuckers talking about, he's got access to the Charts!!!
I'm stunned.

"ready to record flat tracks"? "record contract if your signed"? The web site is funnier than the video. And what's with all the Butch Vig photos?
One thing that doesn't make sense to me is-
If they're 'World Class', why on earth does he use Hotmail?
Why do the studios not have a 'real' site?
Why is that video so bad? You'd think they'd hire a professional and make it more like an advert, maybe show you around these 'World Class' studios.
Oh well...
ROCK OUT!
thats because his into "Lo-Fi"..... :P
What is a "flat track" and why would I want one?
Oh wait, he has private bodyguards for me though. Ya know, in case someone tries to mug me after I get off the jet.
named himself after another fucktard icon? dead giveaway: i think whomever is the beneficiary of CR's life insurance policy faked this whole thing!
That has to be a joke. Albeit one that isn't funny at all unless you're in on it.
I like his picture of the diamond on the latest blog entry.
Do you think he's got access to Air Montserrat?
The msn website, the scadillion smileyface dingbats, the pictures of rack gear swiped from Zzounds; Diamond Dave's got it all!
My favorite line is: "we got cd store. I don't do much with it."
Why even mention it, then?
I don't know if it is the same guy... "Diamond Dave" is a very common nickname... but when i was working at a record company, one of the things I did was to read email (and everyone who wasn't a big-shot did rotating duty reading/screening normal mail), so I had to deal a little bit with the strange people who sent things in.
Anyway, there was a crazed stalker guy named "Diamond Dave". Apparently he spoke to one of the artists after a concert, giving a big talk about his awesome music industry abilities, and of course the artist said "that sound great, send the company your resume, they would love to hear from you"... I assume just to be polite and not diss a fan at a concert.
Anyway, apparently Diamond Dave interpreted this as a job offer. He sold everything he owned to move into a cheap hotel room not far from the record company's headquarters (he knew the P.O. address, but not the business address, thank god!). And thus began a long, entertaining ordeal with Diamond Dave sending phone messages, emails and letters alternately selling himself as a great employee we should hire... and alternately the gruesome torture, homosexual rape, and mutilation he would do to us and our families for selling him out on the job. He was especially fond of magic marker drawings of him mutilating the guys in the band. I guess he eventually ran out of money to live in a nearby motel room and eventually lost interest, but it did provide some mild entertainment, and secretly we were all fans of Diamond Dave.
The only thing that makes me think that this guy isn't the Diamond Dave was that the photos that Diamond Dave sent of himself he looked kind of like a fat old-school professional wrestler (and the Diamond Dave we dealt with fancied himself a pro-wrestler in addition to his music biz abilities). But then again, the fact that he mentioned "Belize City" is uncanny (the manager of the band would have his secretary tell Diamond Dave that he was on business in Belize City every time DD called). The "Belize City" thing seems like quite a coincidence, unless this is just some common music business joke that I am not in on!
spoken in seinfeld voice:
what is the deal with wrestlers and threatening people with homosexual rape anyway...

Did he call himself a "Master Engineer"? I didn't know the jedi still gave out that title to guys that put pictures of Digi 002 units on their website to entice potential customers.
This comment is a world class comment. It is written professionally by a professional people. I am using top computer keyboard to type this comment on. I'm really curious about this guy. Does anyone have any more info on him? His little smirks and snorts enrage me. This is by far the most annoying fucktard yet.
Give him a call. I'll bet you anything he'll tell you all you want to know.
In fact, I submit that a prize would be in order for the first person to provide the Analog Industries audience with an MP3 of a recorded phone conversation where you call this guy and say you want to break big, and what can he do for you?
Of course, if he's seen this, it'll take all the fun out of it, but like I was recently told by someone that knows, they can't punch you through the phone, right?
-CR
I'd do it, but I'm sure that it would be too much for me to handle and it'd make me feel bad later. However, I'd love to have a good laugh at his expense if someone else were to fuck with him. That makes me only 60% evil.
I really hope you do a "Fucktard of the Year" competition at the end of the year. This guy would certainly be among the nominees. You could recap the five top contenders and we could all vote. Then we could all chip in for some commemorative placque or something. Yeah, that's it, one that looks like a cheap knockoff of a gold record or an MBox.
One of "Diamond Dave's" work phone numbers has an Little Rock Ark. area code, I'm no cartographer but I believe Little Rock is a little North of Belize.
master eng. we work with the best. honest hard working. just want to make all the artist happy. life is short so lets rock it. the best way. make money for you is the most important thing.that what we do.
Oh man! Diamond Dave's just non-stop. Here's another jem that makes me wanna kill myself:

Here I go again! obviously, I meant "gem", I always make this stupid mistake and blame it on Steve Vai and his signature series.
- BMU
Oh, dear sweet Christ, make it stop. I only made it as far as him getting in the jacuzzi, and I had to kill that tab right promptly.
-CR
well, i was thinking about applying to be a studio musician for him, but he DEMANDS top of the line musicians that are the best in their field...i suppose i'll just get in line after Nathen East, Alex Al and Will Lee :)
Okay... this guy has now moved beyond fucktard, and is firmly in the creepy territory. That last youtube vid gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Man, I haven't had so much fun since seeing Farrah Fawcett's cameltoe live on Battle of the Network Allstars '78.
Oh man, I gotta call this guy...the hotel promo-video (which curiously looks more like a time share than a hotel room) is over the top.
This has to be a joke
Well, at least he does the same amount of typos as anyone working in a studio or a record company... (which gotta prove he's in the business, no time for doublechecking, etc.) :-D Anyway, right now we need one brave and adventurous soul to tell him centered text is not exactly okay on a web page...
Anyway, if somebody figures out what's in his drinking water, tell me. Need to get some of THAT.
Ok, obviously, the guy had his 5 minutes of fame playing bass in a goth/grunge cover band in early 90's and couldn't recover. Too much bad washing powder cut coke snorted in in a backroom, one shitty tour playing other people's songs, watching people going mad during "Paranoid", watching people NOT going mad during any of his own songs, falling in love with one of the singing sluts, watching in agony while the guitarist buttfucks first his secret love (giving her multiple orgasms), then the poor bass player himself and on top of that his secret love laughs at his face turning his love down - and finally the poor bassist (a.k.a. the guy with a 5-string-pizza shovel, a.k.a. the Master Engineer) gets kicked off of the band. Then, after about 10 years of good quality ($1,50/hour) therapy this poor bass player finds The True Force Of Web Wide World™. No, World Web... no, Web World... no... huh?
All that and a Roland groove box and easily The Most Gayest Speech Sound™. Enough to become a bit confused.
(ok, nothing against gay people, the word "gay" used in that context just sounds a bit better than, you know, The Most Straightest Speech Sound™. Somehow it lacks the... kick?)
A positive side: it's wonderful how creative a delusional person can become. As long as he doesn't harm anyone else, his hobby is okay. Just one thing: there is a more-than-a-slight resemblance between him and Butch Vig, isn't there? I guess we know now what Butch does when he's not producing Garbage. ;-) It's wonderful what a touch of makeup and a good butch wig can do. :-D
Wow! free drinks! no charge to you...
I've stayed in nicer 2 and 3 star hotels.
i looooooooove marble
Correct me if i'm wrong but with all the talk on his page about being a big time studio working with this and that... i don't recall seeing any type of resume on the people or bands he/the nation of Nigeria have worked for. Didn't see any actual photos of the famed studio either.
Not sure who's worse- Diamond Dave the Master Engineer or Diamond Dave, Bluegrass Afficionado.
This guy has been working this "studio" since 2002:

Sounds like he babelfished his spiel from whatever language Belize uses over to Engrish.
Your studio are belong to us.
Incredible post. I loved both videos, although some of it was quite difficult to get my head around.
By looking at the DD website, I could be wrong but it looks like the 'studio' is situated in some dusty corner of the 'CD Store'. Anyone else notice that? That's where Charles D sits, working on the ol' SSL, it would seem. :) The pictures are top-notch, but the captions are even better... I think there are two full photo albums there.
Er... there is also some rather interesting stuff floating around on Google if you look, too.
"Er... there is also some rather interesting stuff floating around on Google if you look, too."
You're not kidding. This guy's real name is David Engerson, and apparently, he can't go for five minutes without mentioning his recording studio.

from the above link (apparently we all have God to thank for Dave's success):

Wow! Thanks guys. It turns out that he's not just crazy, but a dick as well. It's weird that Jesus would set Dave up with a recording studio.
Oh dear god its real.
Methinks Diamond Dave married some chick from Belize who had a lot of money whilst she was sight-seeing in Arkansas.
I have been trying to reach Dave via ICQ to talk about a charity project "i'm in charge of procuring a studio for" with Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Robert Plant....no dice insofar :-(
He also... builds... space craft... !
"well ive read all of your chats well it looks like a phone talk problem and im going to speak with the owners or board members about the way there hurten ya just how many are you dont need names or accounts me tell me where you live like cal fl. one for tenn. ok tell i'll take my emails to the press and top the white house and file suits under the gov. folks act sounds good. i want to help all of you there nothing wrong with there system its just that they need money pay back time. it may go up then slows down way alot of folks in the net. in other words when your cup is full they just want more understand they are sending more gear in outter space. updatting stuff in the old system. but remember power p there in space is a low rate that part of the reason why. how do i know this. i build space craft drawing plain for the us. im also and music eng. rec. bands and artist. all i can tell ya if you want to save money sometime you need to spend it. to get the right speed. in belize i pay more than all of you. i pay 600.oo a month for fast speeds you get what you pay for and it also might help to get a upgrade on your dish just check for you updates like rca---and so on before you buys ask a pro . make sure there a pro. not just a talker. this is diamonddave me ya be nice im only trying to help ya give me a cheer after washingtion bush or some guy will hear me

i still can't stop watching the first video.
"we have CD dup-a-cation"
"we can dup-a-cate...."

i think its time this bomb got dropped on Gearslutz... me thinks he'll get eaten alive by the engineers there.

Oh, man, that was fucking priceless. You just can't pay money for this kind of entertainment, seriously.
Good one, Dave (McAnally)!
-CR
Hys-fuckin'-terical.
someone on Gearslutz has contacted Butch Vig with regards to Douchebag Dave... we'll see what happens.
Dave McAnally ... you gotta keep stringing him along man!!!
This is priceless.
Sadly I think I got outed...he's not responding to me.
Perhaps he took the weekend off. Pity...I wanted to ask him if he had any rooms with granite because our bassplayer is allergic to marble
Yeah he definitely caught on...it appears the 2nd video (in all its "shower-phone" glory) has been removed by the user and his website looks like it went on a diet.
Fun while it lasted though!
Okay I'm beating a dead horse...but I'm sitting in a hotel bored as shit and I got Diamond Dave talking again. This time, I think I convinced him to position himself as a hurdy gurdy recording expert (via mass amounts of bullshit and some shit I made up about isoceles triangular rooms being optimal for hurdy gurdies)
[15:28] Edgehead: Hey I saw you on your video that you are looking for musicians to work with on your studio projects and you are only taking professionals...are there any non-competes involved in joining your team?
[15:30] Edgehead: I have been playing bass on a few sessions with Desmond Child in Orlando, but I'm also a suzuki string graduate on the hurdy gurdy
[15:31] Edgehead: this is Diamond Recording Studios?
[15:34] Edgehead: Also, I have a folk project I'm looking for a miami based studio
[15:51] diamonddave: yes i have
[15:51] Edgehead: I am an expert in my field
[15:51] Edgehead: for bass
[15:51] Edgehead: and hurdy gurdy
[15:51] Edgehead: do you do any projects that need a hurdy gurdy?
[15:52] Edgehead: I toured with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in 1995
[15:52] Edgehead: on the No Quarter Tour
[15:52] Edgehead: but lately its been all bass gigs
[15:52] Edgehead: I want to get back into hg recording stuff
[15:53] Edgehead: I've done some banjo studio work too
[15:54] Edgehead: what instrumentalists are you primarily looking for?
[15:57] Edgehead: are you still there?

[16:47] Edgehead: do you have the capacity to record a hurdy gurdy
[16:47] Edgehead: in Miami?

[18:22] Edgehead: yes
[18:22] Edgehead: I am a hurdy gurdy player
[18:22] Edgehead: I am a master in my field
[18:23] Edgehead: hurdy gurdy players are very rare in north american studios and I know a lot of producers like to have them in the mix as a textural sound, so it might be a good talking point if you can say that Diamond Recordings has professional hurdy gurdy recording capabilities
[18:24] Edgehead: I also have a sackbut which is a really rare instrument
[18:25] Edgehead: Jethro Tull used them a lot, and I played one on one of Steve Lillywhite's sessions
[18:25] Edgehead: but its really hard to find people who can mic them properly
[18:28] Edgehead: anyhow, I was going to say, if you don't have any musicians who can play timed instruments, we should talk because I know a lot of producers are looking to produce more natural tones without relying on synths (they still sound too fake)
[18:53] diamonddave: cool need help im redoing my tube in cause too many folks dont under stand. you have tube tv loggin a see me live. ok bro.
[18:54] diamonddave: it under recordind studio part one
or diamonddave103
[18:54] Edgehead: if you want to mention your miami facilities have hurdy gurdy, sackbut and bass musicians coming soon or under development that's cool
[18:54] diamonddave: you will see me and my studio
[18:54] Edgehead: I know Steve wanted one for taht Rearview Mirror session he was doing a coupl eyears ago
[18:54] Edgehead: and Metallica used a gurdy on Reload and a lot of people wanted to use them
[18:54] diamonddave: im a little guyt in a very big company
[18:55] Edgehead: yeah
[18:55] diamonddave: yeah easy to get
[18:56] Edgehead: but since they are obscure and hard to maintain, there aren't many musicians who can play 'em, and most bigger studios definitely don't have them laying around
[18:56] diamonddave: i gave you the link
[18:56] Edgehead: where?
[18:56] diamonddave: or if i get folks in studio i'll buy it
[18:56] diamonddave: cal.
[18:57] diamonddave: la.
[18:57] diamonddave: sam ash tom would have to order it.
[18:57] Edgehead: sackbuts are the same way, supposedly Tony Visconti was looking for one to use on David Bowie's Heathen album
[18:58] Edgehead: but then you have to find musicians who know how to play them
[18:58] Edgehead: but farming out that session work is a pretty good niche to be in right now
[18:58] Edgehead: you pretty good with ambient mic'ing?
[18:58] Edgehead: I assume your room is pretty good?
[18:59] Edgehead: acoustically?
[18:59] diamonddave: well i know the folks im a star from the 80's and most of the players are about 40 to 50 years old.
[18:59] Edgehead: yeah I"m 52
[18:59] diamonddave: hold on let me look up my old buddy and ask.
[19:00] diamonddave: i think he knows more
[19:00] Edgehead: you mean about your room in miami?
[19:00] Edgehead: triangular rooms are optimal for hurdy gurdy acoustics
[19:01] Edgehead: so if you have baffles or something that you can create that with, you should mention it
[19:01] diamonddave: no my studio is in belize my other workers are in miami cal.
[19:01] Edgehead: oh
[19:01] diamonddave: i have two homes
[19:02] diamonddave: miami and belize right now im in belize
[19:02] Edgehead: wot are your live rooms like in Belize?
[19:02] diamonddave: baffles yes i think i do
[19:02] Edgehead: I know Steve would probably fly down there if its got only one 90 degree angle
[19:02] diamonddave: thats some of my reel to reel rec.
[19:03] Edgehead: I know him from a long ways back, I collaborated with Brian Eno around the time Steve was recording U2
[19:03] diamonddave: mmm do you play hurdy gurdy player well
[19:03] diamonddave: ooh
[19:04] Edgehead: we recorded a hurdy gurdy / Frippertronics duet album, but since we were on opposite labels we never got it released
[19:04] diamonddave: i see
[19:04] Edgehead: Robert Fripp is a HUGE hurdy gurdy fan
[19:04] Edgehead: sustain and all...
[19:04] diamonddave: well i was
[19:05] diamonddave: but rec. studio have changed in 13 year
[19:05] diamonddave: no dry
[19:05] Edgehead: yeah but the problem is that since everyone is dialing in their pads from the same synth banks now, its hard to deliver new sounds
[19:05] diamonddave: i like a flat sound with no eq
[19:05] Edgehead: yeah depending on if the room is good me too
[19:06] diamonddave: then i put on my pic to my heart
[19:06] diamonddave: i work better that way
[19:06] diamonddave: if i dont like it i cant go back
[19:06] Edgehead: right
[19:06] diamonddave: hurdy gurdy player do you need one
[19:06] Edgehead: so since you're in belize, do you have a place for musicians to stay?
[19:07] Edgehead: I would imagine the accomodations aren't easy to come by
[19:07] diamonddave: yes a 4 star hotel with a casino
[19:07] Edgehead: ah
[19:07] diamonddave: that free
[19:07] Edgehead: usually in that part of the world, my per diems are only 500 US dollars per day
[19:08] diamonddave: i pay for the room you pay for the food heheheheheh
[19:08] Edgehead: I did a tour through there with Fleetwood Mac a long time ago
[19:08] Edgehead: haha do you pay for the drinks?
[19:08] Edgehead: well if you want, I can email you some mp3's of some hurdy gurdy solo stuff
[19:09] diamonddave: i dont mind paying to get the song right if its a hit just give me a tip and lets do it again its called trust
[19:09] Edgehead: it was scrapped from a project I was supposed to do with Robert Plant after Manic Nirvana came out
[19:09] diamonddave: not many studio work that way
[19:09] diamonddave: i see
[19:09] Edgehead: how much per hour do you normally charge?
[19:10] diamonddave: sorry my type is messy
[19:10] Edgehead: its okay
[19:10] diamonddave: well the good news is i dont wear a watch
[19:10] Edgehead: I'm also a flutist so I'm an excellent typer
[19:10] Edgehead: haha
[19:10] diamonddave: i was a star from the 80's
[19:10] Edgehead: lee roth?
[19:11] diamonddave: never made it big but my friends did.
[19:11] Edgehead: ain't that the way of it
[19:11] Edgehead: who were your friends?

[19:11] diamonddave: i dont give my info on the net sorry there close to me
[19:11] Edgehead: ah

[19:13] Edgehead: i see
[19:14] diamonddave: benny works on a ship.and his wife did his house
[19:14] Edgehead: so how many rooms do you usually have going at one?
[19:14] Edgehead: nice
[19:14] Edgehead: or do bands usually do lockout?
[19:14] diamonddave: i only rec one band at a time
[19:14] Edgehead: ah okay
[19:15] diamonddave: start one song then next
[19:15] Edgehead: from start to end?
[19:15] diamonddave: its better this way why
[19:15] Edgehead: so you start/record/mix one song and then start/record/mix the next?
[19:15] diamonddave: the song gets better rattings
[19:15] Edgehead: most projects I work on we record the rhythm tracks, then guitars/midrange stuff and then vocals, then mix
[19:16] Edgehead: for the whole project
[19:16] diamonddave: rec flat track/then sample edit/test/test check/
[19:16] diamonddave: then mix sample
[19:16] Edgehead: where does the song get the better ratings?
[19:16] Edgehead: like on the active radio charts?
[19:16] diamonddave: test on radio car then the baby
[19:16] Edgehead: yes
[19:16] diamonddave: then mom a dad
[19:17] diamonddave: may a sister or a church

[19:18] Edgehead: I'm tellin ya man, you gotta throw hurdy gurdys into the backing mix!
[19:18] Edgehead: totally fills out the sound
[19:19] diamonddave: well here and idea
[19:19] Edgehead: especially for indie music
