SSL Love-Fest Continues...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

Don’t you just want to hug those guys? I may up and move to Oxford if they keep on like this, just to be close. It seems they bought Sydec, those whacky Belgian DSP farmers. The press release is the typical marketeer speak “blah, blah, Sydec brings a thorough knowledge of the PC platform to the table, blah, blah, we’re all on the same page, let’s run it up the flagpole” bullshit, but the gist of it is thus: SSL now owns a company that makes audio PCs.

I see a replacement for the Death Star in my not-too-distant future.

Oh, get a room you two!

I'd guess that even more immediate is that they bought a company that makes PCI DSP cards. Given the soft/hard Duende hybrid as a precedent, we might start seeing something at the UAD/Scope/poco level within a year.

Let's put it this way: in June of 2005, it was a top-of-the-line Athlon64 machine, with the best of everything. Now, it is not. I'm not too concerned with keeping up with the Jonses on pretty much any subject you'd care to name, but where my music PC is concerned, I like to be out on the raggedy edge, and it is rapidly approaching upgrade territory.

(I wouldn't suggest this course of action for a music computer, but building and upgrading PCs, and running multiple operating systems on them, is a hobby of mine, plus I Feel The Need For Speed.)
