'Tis that time of the month again. Since it's hard to keep abreast of the happenings in electronic music, what's your current favorite? (Link please, if you've got one.) And no fucking trance.

On a side note, during the NBA playoffs I keep seeing this Marines commercial (apologies to our non-US readers) and the music is really not bad, a far cry from the normal "Band Of Brothers" airs they normally use. [Here 'tis.](http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZiVP9aOfOQM&mode=related&search=) Anyone know who composed the music for this? Probably a house job, but I'm curious.

The new Gosub album, Watchers from the Black Universe, is out, and it's well worth checking. He makes electro in the Drexciya/ Heinrich Mueller style. It's on citinite records.

**retrosynth** (2007-05-15):

I'll probably get flamed for this but I'm digging Goose's "Bring It On". http://www.goosemusic.com/ Lots of fat synth bass and cheesy synth lines.

**tngregory** (2007-05-15):

current just can't get enough:
trentemøller: http://www.myspace.com/trentemoeller
something fresh and inevitable about it.

**Dale** (2007-05-15):

speaking of new music, thanks for the amon tobin comment a few weeks back. I've tried to compose like that for awhile and now I have a new reference!

**Subliminal Fusion** (2007-05-15):

I've really been into Trentemøller recently as well. His Essential Mix grabbed me as much as any I've heard since Sander Kleinenberg's. I also can't get enough of The Knife recently. Trentemøller's mix of "We Share Our Mothers' Health" probably had something to do with that.

**studio nebula** (2007-05-15):

"No fucking trance"? Okay, guess I can't mention what I'm listening to right now while rewriting Dr. D's motion recording mechanism for the third time.

I cannot comment on the Marines commercial (you know, like if you can't something nice about the abuse of music...), but I will point you once again to Nobot here in Denver. Justin (Cacheflowe) just opened for Amon Tobin at the Bluebird and rocked that shit. I HIGHLY recommend getting a copy of "Automate Everything." It's just badass. Also, any collaborations between Scaffolding and Sarah Marcogliese that you can find will be worth a purchase. The latest is still in the matering and repication phase, but it will be a remix-fest-to-remember.

B12's 3EP still rocks 9 years on.

**emulsion** (2007-05-15):

The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (Kompakt)
I'm really digging this album, kind of microhouse-y with nice textures, real attention to melody, and a few hands in the air dance moments.

Tobias Lilja - Time is on my Side (n5md)
Really thick ambient with vocals and interesting vocal treatments. Hard to place, totally unlike much electronic music I've heard.

**inasilentway** (2007-05-15):

It's not current and it's not electronic but someone just showed me this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s
It's Marvin with James Jamerson on bass, playing astounding lines. As a bassist, this is exactly what I'm shooting for.

**unempty** (2007-05-15):

El-P's new album (I'll sleep when you're dead) is really good. http://www.myspace.com/elproducto

**kokkobil3** (2007-05-15):

Paul Simon - Surprise (produced by Brian Eno)
there's something young inside this album...

Eno - Before and after science
the seed for every Eno-produced album from Talking Heads to U2's Achtung Baby

Talking Heads - Brick (Dual disk boxset with all the albums remixed in 5.1)
...and the beat goes on...

I'm in a Eno-Period.
He is always charming...

**inasilentway** (2007-05-15):

I'm fairly surprised (nyuck nyuck) at that Paul Simon/Eno album. Though it's got a few good songs, as a whole it's kind of boring, with crappy beats laid over mostly sub-par Paul Simon songs. I was expecting more from the two of them. I do think it's rather funny that the two worked together though, IIRC Eno was a little displeased with how Paul Simon appropriated a lot of stuff the Talking Heads were doing and made a lot of money with it.

**RexRhino** (2007-05-15):

It is not new, but I have been enjoying Dabrye lately: http://www.myspace.com/dabrye

As far as military commercials, I have been enjoying the music in the crazy blackhawk down style 'Fight with the Canadian Forces' commercials...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_6vK_JSSTo&mode=related&search=
The Canadian military commercial smoke the U.S. commercials!

**nathanj** (2007-05-15):

ok,

no disrespect, but i cant remember seeing a really good album posted here, and ive been following this for about a year now, heres my favorite albums ive found over the last year,.

rasmus mobius - medicine walk

electic bird - gradiations (oldish, but awesome)

Kangding Ray - Stabil

lusine - serial hodgepodge

marc leclair - musique pour 3 femmes enceintes

Deceptikon - greater cascadia

Rhythm and Sound - See mi yah

Midnite - ras mek peace

Midnite - let live

and pretty much anything by john adams, morton feldman and robert ashely, each within their own.

Pan American and Jan Jelinek are each on the top of my list, though nothing new in the last little bit.

**Mike** (2007-05-15):

I picked up the Keiran Hebden & Steve Reid collaborations. The two EPs are far more interesting than the album, but for anyone who isn't really into the whole gltichy electronica & jazz drumming thing the album is more accessible.

**quantize** (2007-05-15):

I've kinda finally tired of Trentemøller, as much as i love his stuff...

so here's some fresh recommendations :

Deadmau5
BSOD
Gus Gus - Forever
Elite Force
Lindstrøm

**vae** (2007-05-15):

I'm pimpin' a friend here, but I've loved the new Blamstrain stuff a lot. The brothomstrain vs blamstates ep on narita, disfold on sending orbs... and some apparently yet unreleased stuff that just rocks.

See http://www.blamstrain.com/

**Blackrg** (2007-05-15):

Long time lurker..'adding' to the 'debate'

Burial 'Burial' - I know, it was like last year but you gotta check it out if you like Basic Channel

Jesu - 'Silver'

Tim Exile - Tim Exile's Nuisance Gabbaret Lounge

**rakumin** (2007-05-15):

Cuchara net-label... strange minimal music

<a href=" http://www.cuchara.info/ www.cuchara.info</a>

**giantm** (2007-05-15):

I've really been enjoying the new LCD Soundsystem album "Sound of Silver". I hear they covered the entire studio in foil to get the silver sound.

**ecallender** (2007-05-15):

Tycho's "Past is Prologue" ( http://www.tychomusic.com/ ) is pretty good stuff.

**kcrosley** (2007-05-15):

Have been enjoying the Emilie Simon compilation "The Flower Book." Somewhat derivative of Kate Bush, but amusing nonetheless and full of more modern production touches. Includes a glitchy cover of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" that I think is cool (but I can see how others might consider it completely "unnecessary").

BTW, just purchased the Replicant plug-in and it is fantastic. Thank you, Audio Damage!

**teledub** (2007-05-15):

It's difficult not to prop friends, but... what are you gonna do?

The new records by:

Dalek http://www.myspace.com/dalek
Jesu http://www.myspace.com/officialjesu
The Book of Knots http://www.myspace.com/officialjesu
are all great in my opinion.

and a record by people I don't know, but have listened to in various incarnations for years:
Grinderman: http://www.myspace.com/grinderman
(Basically, the Bad Seeds without Mick Harvey)

The last two stray from the "new electronic" criteria of the thread.
Sorry about that.

**boobs** (2007-05-15):

if you haven't already check out:

Deru - pushing air

Clark - Body riddle

David Foster Wallace - Consider The Lobster

einoma - Undir Feilnótum

einoma - Milli Tonverka

ben milstein (aka Doctor Evil) lot's of 12 inches around on andrea parkers label "touch'n bass"

Shadowhuntaz (aka funckarma, cane, cenik) - instrumentals

**beauty pill** (2007-05-15):

The new Battles record is dope.

I find myself being surprised to agree with Pitchfork.

**kokoon** (2007-05-15):

the latest Rephlex signing, the mysterious "The Tuss", i've been listening to the 4 tracks quite a lot. a certain aphex-ish quality, but mostly just soundwise. well... and the bassline in the track Alspacka sounds awfully like Redlof's... :)

other than that... Aleksi Perälä's latest (Rephlex again) is really a GOOD piece of electronic music, i really recommend it!

**kokoon** (2007-05-15):

oh, and another vote for Burial - Burial. definitely one of the best last year's.

**BoxcarBill** (2007-05-15):

Ratatat has been my new favorite for about a year now. I guess it's best described as indietronica, but don't take that against them.

http://myspace.com/ratatatmusic

**Gibbon** (2007-05-15):

Since I'm Canadian, if you haven't checked it out yet, go for MSTRKRFT's - The Looks. It's got your favourite mks-80 all over it in, wrapped up in a Neve sandwhich with a side order of ass whooping. Disco Punk at it's finest.

Second vote for The Cinematic Orchestra's - Ma Fleur and anything by Tycho (i'm biased he and I are both graphic designers).

Also, Robert Babicz - A Cheerful Temper. Coming out this month I think? He can outproduce anyone with his world war II era german broadcasting gear.. or whatever. His sorry ass looking half broken tb303 will kill you if you look at it funny, and you'll pay for the privilege.

www.robertbabicz.de

P.S. I want his console.

**Twlo** (2007-05-16):

the new EL-P and Grinderman discs are the only real stand outs for me, both excellent!

**Chris Randall** (2007-05-16):

I've gotta say the Grinderman album is my most-played for the last couple weeks, as well. Some really nice minimalist production on that record.

Apparat's latest album, "Walls" is just ridiculously good. Amazing blend of violins, beats, glitch, vocals.. you name it. Can't get enough.

**Abarus** (2007-06-08):

My current favorite electronic musician is Chris Clark (Warp Records). His style is amazing.
