Hmmmm....

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

I was pondering the idea of playing a few live “shows” once I’m done with the latest Micronaut album, which will be a few weeks, and possibly dragging my boy Bounte along with me. If you live in Seattle, PDX, or San Francisco, is there a regular monthly or weekly event where live experimental (but not too experimental, you know?) electronic music is the name of the game? Go ahead and post the info here instead of writing me, as I’m sure others will find it useful.

I also wouldn’t be opposed to developing a dynamic database of this sort of information, to enable others to have access to booking info. But that would involve me begging my wife to make yet another MySQL database, so that remains to be seen. But as far as I know there is no current source of this sort of info on the internet that is freely available.

When you say booking info do you mean a list of promoters/clubs what they put on and who to get in touch with to book there / send a demo?

Sounds simple enough to do pretty sharpish, just gotta think of a decent domain name and enough info on it to make it useful :-)

i would love to see you at café du nord. in a heartbeat. great place and a little unusual for the venue. mezzanine would be killer.

RML would be the bee's knees. http://recombinantmedia.net/
Just saw Bilxa there last week and both the sound and visuals were overwhelming.

seattle's baltic room hosts a thursday nite joint called "oscillate", but it may be on a seasonal hiatus.

the lofi performance gallery may suit you, too.

I'm sure pretty much any venue in portland would be willing to have you play. depending on the crowd you are shooting for, though that will make the difference.

I personally haven't played any venues but I know a deverse group of peopel who have played shows....all over the place.

Probably for this type of music, holoscene or the doug fir?

I second what hteah said. Laptop lounge is geared for more IDM... but we tend to shift towards techno and techno bass (Ben Milstein and Solenoid have played it). You can contact me at http://www.virb.com/senorfrio

For SF I'd talk to blasthaus, they do a variety of events at different locations. Their "further" series might be the sort of thing you're looking for...

Contact/booking info I have for them is monikaATblasthaus.com / 415-756-8825, but I am not connected with them.

Oh, a smaller but regular electronic SF monthly is Backlit Lounge http://www.myspace.com/backlitloungesf

This is a much smaller thing, just some musicians hanging out at a bar and too small for Chris, but for people who just want to play out in SF it can be cool and it is very easy to get booked...

One more... Kontrol is a bigger, dancier monthly event http://www.kontrolsf.com/ that focuses (or at least used to?) on minimal tech-house type stuff.

    re: seattle..
lof-fi is going out of business, and yes oscillate is going into a semi-hibernation but is the best game in town for not-easily-classifiable electronic music. there are lots of options for promoters and places to play...sensory effect, decibel, wakeup, neumo's, baltic room, nectar...email me at science [at] massmvmnt.com and i can give you some emails.
