Adam and I were talking about something or other, and our talk naturally turned to keytars, as it is prone to do, and I recalled that I had seen Oingo Boingo on the very tour filmed above, and the bass player played keytar in the only way it is possible to look cool doing so. A quick YouTube search later and here we go. Fuck, but this band was tight.

you are joking arent you?

he looks like a prick... its a keyboard not a guitar so whats the point.

at least he doesnt point it at the audience like a machine gun, or fuck the thing, like some guitarists are prone to i guess. like the beret on the dude playing the keyboards properly though.

Did I sound like I was joking?

No one dares to mock the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, so you can assume that CR was totally serious.

**tngregory** (2007-12-13):

off to spend the remains of the day listening to oingo. thanks for the reminder.

**stevo83** (2007-12-13):

i certainly hope you were.... who knows. Oingo Boingo sounds like a spanish porno or something... oops, did it again ;)

i do wish more bands dressed like that now though... im sick of converse trainers and skinny jeans etc. bring back berets and vests with broaches i say!

**Chris Randall** (2007-12-13):

Not to be flippant, Steve, but is the "83" in your nom de plume the year you were born? If that's the case, you were roughly 5 or 6 when this tour occurred, so you can be forgiven. If you are, in fact, my age (39) then you got some 'splainin' to do.

oingo boing rocked about as hard as it possible to rock. there is no room for irony when the band can deliver such a massive dose of irony and whoop ass simultaneously as to overwhelm any possible haters.

gotta love the elfman soundtracks and all but the boingo was pure visceral nerd tinged beauty.

**myrnaloy** (2007-12-13):

If I affixed a number to the end of my name reflecting the year i was born, it would be a 65 so i am grateful for the Oingo Boingo reminder.

A long, long time ago, I purchased a Prophet VS (when they were brand spanking new) and I had an issue early on (i don't remember what) so I called SC. The guy i talked to said to me "Danny Elfman is having the same issue so we are on it."

I seem to recall nothing ever came of that.

The dude playing the keytar looks to me like he also played a Chapman Stick at some point or another. He is holding it all crazy Chapman-y Stick-y style.

**Tom** (2007-12-13):

I'm not too familiar with Oingo, but based on my perusal of several of their videos on YouTube, Elfman was apparently the Official Spokesperson for "wifebeater" style shirts throughout the 1980's :)

While we're all rockin' out to this particular genre, just wondering, any other big time XTC fans on here besides myself?

**tremorcore** (2007-12-13):

to correct stevo83, he *was* known to do the occasional "keytar machine gun" when the pile of flung brassieres (which invariably amassed in his section of the stage) attained a suitable height.

snoop ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chzhfahAS5o ) doesn't hold a candle.
