I, for one, welcome our new 23-secret-ingredient-wielding music business overlords...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

Of course, if we’re incredibly lucky, it won’t actually work. But if history is any judge, we won’t be lucky. At least we’ll get a free can of soda out of the deal.

This is kind of like the polar opposite of NIN/Radiohead, in a weird sort of way.

17 years!?! Jesus fuck! I thought Lateralus and The Fragile were huge let downs after their extended gestation periods. Nothing could possibly live up to 17 years of expectation.

Are you talking about Fragile by Yes? That album will never get old. Lateralus on the other hand...

Izzy Stradlin wrote most of the good tunes on the Illusion albums IMO

    Newsflash for you kids:

    1) There are no good tunes on the Illusions album.

    2) Fragile got old fairly quickly.

Isn't the subjectivity of music fun?

That might be why Double Talking Jive stands out from the rest of the Illusions for me

Guns 'n Roses and Dr Pepper... Talk about adding insult to injury.

I'll just sit back and relax with the new Baseball album and a nice cup of tea...

All of my favorite albums are overproduced, so I'm curious to hear it. Of course, two years in the studio with Trevor Horn and 17 years in the studio with Axel Rose might sound somewhat different.

Well, maybe there's still hope for an Air Supply reunion.

Appetite was one of my all time favorite albums growing up, you could listen to it from start to finish without hearing any weak tracks.

That being said, Axl waited to fucking long and changed the formula from the original band too much to be relevant now. I have no doubt that he's had an album's worth of new songs recorded for years now but he's sitting on it because he's too neurotic to release it. It's been built up so much now that no matter how good it is it won't live up to the hype. Same with the new Dr. Dre album. Dr. Dre should have stopped talking about how Detox was coming out and just finished it. Now it's been hyped up too much.

Re: The Fragile. It was a decent effort but it's no Downward Spiral. There are a lot of tracks on that double disc that I skip now. At some point between Perfect Drug and Fragile something fundamentally changed about how NIN albums are recorded. I'm not sure exactly what but there's something about the tonality of the older albums that I like better.
