Finally took the plunge and got a PowerCore X8 from AudioMidi. It should be here on Monday or so, and I'll offer up some pithy comments. For the PoCo owners out there, what are the must-have additional plugs? I have a $500 voucher to spend at the TC Store. I think I can live without X5, as it comes with X3, so we can go ahead and rule that out. And the Sonnox stuff is unfortunately out of the question, as there is no possible way I'm installing any PACE products on my computer. (Because that whacking big rack-mount dongle wasn't enough, apparently.) Anyone have VSS3, and if so, is it The Shit?

Aint Waldorf got a synth and a vocoder for poco that aint part of the waldorf 3 pack? I think those plugs have been decommisioned anyway.

I have an old PCI PoCo mk1 that is bundled with and ( I bought for ) the Access Virus plugin. The PoCo v3 software pack comes with a demo, try it out if you want, but IMO it has the best overall 'balls' of any software synth I've heard. If you get the multi-DSP license, that's a whole lot of Virus.

Bah. Virus. Software synths. Bah. Don't make me Rickroll you.

VSS3 is nice for sure. But in my opinion, the essential tool is the MD3.

It's too bad about the Oxford thing, because they only recently went to a Pace protection scheme. Those are 90% of the reason I still have a PoCo Firewire, and because I had zero need to upgrade, I am still using the older version that did not require the iLok.

**resonaut** (2008-03-19):

VSS3 is indeed a must-have. Great stuff...

I also have MD3, but really haven't used it much (Sonnox or UAD + Duende does it for me)...wouldn't say it's a must-buy...

TC Thirty is one of the nicer amp-sims I've heard...give it a listen... (Tubifex is crap though)

**synthetic** (2008-03-19):

Why did you buy it if you didn't already have plug-ins in mind? I would only buy that if I had to have VSS3 or DVR whatever.

The Oxford stuff sounds great. I've even been using their reverb for a lot of stuff.

Sadly the Waldorf vocoder for the PoCo is no longer available. If it were I'd have it already.

Will be interesting to see the future(?) of TC now that Gibson gobbled them up. Not a great track record there, hopefully they don't destroy TC also.

**Mike** (2008-03-19):

Reverbs and top notch mastering plug-ins are the PoCo's sole purpose as far as I'm concerned, so yes a definite +1 for VSS3 from me.

**inasilentway** (2008-03-19):

You should get the "DVR-2 Digital Vintage Reverb" - I bet you often find yourself for a plug-in that models vintage digital reverbs.
