This poll will no doubt royally fuck all the RSS readers out there, so if you just see this text and no poll, please take a moment and come to the main site and whack one of the choices.

I have a good general idea of what the Audio Damage customer base uses, but I have to admit that I make certain assumptions about the overall AI readership. I'm curious as to how the two line up. There are a shit-ton of people that read this blog that never have created an account; that's fine, of course, but if you could just come out from lurking to vote on this one poll, I'd be oh-so-happy. You don't have to log in to vote; it isn't part of posiNET.

I'm about to say fuck em all though, none are perfect, I got to reinstall a bunch a shit when I could be writing music this afternoon. Cubase/Live/XP fuck up goin on.

**brandon daniel** (2008-05-04):

I use both Cubase and Live equally, so I wasn't really sure which to poke.

**MitchK1989** (2008-05-04):

wow, logic is in the lead. I didn't know I shared a DAW with so many others here. I was expecting live to win out by a large margin and logic to be a distant second...

**MidiMonk** (2008-05-04):

A Logic user after years of ProTools, but do to Apple's arrogant disregard of customers soon to be determined.I may go against the interwebs and go for Cubase, been years since I last tried it(Version 5 IIRC).I am heading back to windows via bootcamp as well,I will avoid going into the gory details, but a search in the Apple forums, will show what MBP users are going through.

**dan s** (2008-05-04):

I wonder how many protool users (aka protools) are gonna be honest?

**Chris Randall** (2008-05-04):

Actually, I think that the ratio will reflect the readership pretty accurately. The only time we talk about ProTools here is when I'm talking shit about it. Frankly, if I was going to read a blog where the community was people like me, and I used ProTools, I wouldn't read this one.

I'm not surprised about Logic being in the lead. For people that are musicians, as opposed to engineers, Logic is clearly the best thing going. I used to use it, and I may again. Right now I prefer Cubase, but I'm ecumenical, and whatever gets the fucking job done is fine by me. We'll wait until the Monday morning crowd votes, though. I would be surprised if Logic wasn't the clear leader of the AI readership, though.

I'd be intrigued if some of the "Other" voters would mention what it is they're using, though. Other than Ardour (which, while a nice idea, is a long ways from being a product one could use even semi-professionally), I couldn't think of anything else off the top of my head. Perhaps I should have added Ardour to the list, but I can't see it being a main DAW for anyone at all.

Renoise is my second DAW to live, it would go under the "other" if it was my primary DAW.

Then you have Buzz and it's clones, Tunafish, Plouge Bidule, Apple's garageband can run AU's aswell, a lot of trackers and such.

And I guess you could if you stretch DAW a real far way call max/msp, pd, chuck and similar for that.

Doesent Korg market some of their synth's as DAW? or was that something else?

**Chris Randall** (2008-05-04):

Yeah, I could easily have 3 dozen items (or more) if I opened up the definition. But for simplicity's sake, I kept it to "a program that runs on your computer, can record MIDI and audio, and allows you to edit same." That rules out a lot of stuff, and all the boxes-n-wires programs, which clearly are _not_ DAWs.

Buzz is most definitely not a DAW. It is a synth. Tunafish is barely out of alpha and is sorely lacking in many features needed to actually be called a DAW. GarageBand is, well, just stupid as hell, really. Trackers are essentially computer-based sample playback. While one could say "well, that's what a DAW is, dumbshit" by the same token we could say "well, you can play audio files back in Excel, so it must be a DAW too." We're not gonna go there. I don't begrudge trackers anything at all, but they're not DAWs, by any reasonable definition.

Live 7 , myself.
I love it and don't really need another sequencer really.

Just a bunch (ok, a lot) of plugins.

**boobs** (2008-05-04):

i almost clicked 'other' because i use audiomulch quite a lot but then i always mix in logic on the mac and i don't consider audiomulch a DAW at all.

i'd say one in ten songs actually gets written in logic. that's starting to change but there's still a lot of hardware sequencing going on w/edits made in live then those tracks exported to logic because for me mixing in live sucks.

so it's really a combination of things that gets the job done for me and has been that way for about 7-8 years now.
