Audio Damage Kombinat updated to 1.0.1
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
Kombinat has been updated to 1.0.1 on both OSX and Windows platforms to fix an issue with the compressor, which wasn’t… uh… compressing. The new installers are available for download. If you’re using Kombinat in a current project, plan accordingly, as this will change the sound of any preset or program which uses the compressor at all, and the change is drastic in some cases.
EDIT: This problem is like genital warts. It simply can’t be tamed. The VST in the OSX of the installer is fixed, but the AU (our special friend) is not. New installer as soon as I can prod Adam to life. The Windows version is 100% fixed, though.
EDIT AGAIN: It’s almost worth deleting this post and starting over, isn’t it? Anyhow, a new OSX installer has been put up, and it’s golden, I swear on the baby Jesus.

The AU is still broken as far as I can tell. VST works though!
Whoops. You're right. I'm going to go kick my own ass now. Update shortly.

*sigh* It's just not my day, and this isn't the only reason I say so.

Well, that's very different. The compressor's a lot snappier than the other one-knob compressor I know of (BetaBugs SimpleSqueeze) and useful even on its own. Nice.
re suggestion of an even Bigger Seq in comments a few back,
it sounds a lot like a competitor for this:
http://www.sugar-bytes.com/content/products/Effectrix/index.php
which despite the gaudy gui is quite useable...
BigSeq2 will be direct competition to that plugin; I won't deny that. What we're working on will not be.

"BigSeq2 will be direct competition to that plugin;"
well then, I'll be holding off on that purchase. If AD can release something like Artillery or Effectrix - and not make it cost as much - it would be game over.
I already liked how the "broken" compressor sounded, assuming it was Kombinat-flavored rather than the usual compression. Now, as Crashproof says, it's useful all on its own. Drums are sounding really good through it.
I liked the sound of the "broken" version too.
Wow... I thought it was cool before. I had sort of gotten used to the "broken" comp too, but now it's like there's a whole 'nother dimensional axis to play with. Yeee-haw!
I really thought this plug would be one of those that I use only rarely for particularly mangled sounds, but I'm using it all over the place. I really like that it has a nice subtle level to it. A lot of "xtreme" distortion effects sound like crap if you turn them down....
