Back To Work...
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
Okay, today is the first official day of “back to work” after the release of Automaton and our subsequent mandatory decompression period. (MDP.) Rough Rider is on the agenda today. This should go fairly quick because it’s a simple plugin, as such things go. I imagine the Windows VST side of things will be done today, and the ports should be fairly quick as well. I have to re-render the front panel (which is an all-night process) because I accidentally made the shadows of the knobs too big, and they animate poorly, so that will add some time. Otherwise, it’s cooking.

sounds cool. i just read the kombinat manual and from what i've gathered Rough Rider will be based on its compressor.
does that mean it will also feature its potential to 'break'?
It won't be as easy to "break" because it isn't tied to a single knob, and thus part of a grander scheme. But yeah, you'll be able to overload it for some nice distortion.

No rest for the wicked eh. Im just getting my head around automaton and another one is gonna be popping its head around the corner.
Might be a silly question but is this compressor gonna be a 'character' compressor or is it gonna be a jack of all trades shenanigan. Either way is good anyway considering its gratis n'all.
Congratulations to you and Adam on Automaton as well by the way. Not only does it sound cool but it also looks pretty damn fresh.
I would say character is there if you need it, but it should be generally good for general purpose use. It definitely has a "sound" to it, inasmuch as any compressor does. I would liken it most to, hmmm, an Omnipressor, maybe? It isn't modeled on anything specific, just tuned to how we like compressors to act.

Sounds good to me dude.... im sold.
Oh wait.... :)
Im sure making this free is gonna get you a LOT more attention from people who wouldnt normally take an interest in AD products. Its also a brilliant way of thanking your loyal customers.
So yeah.... cheers!
No rest for the wicked indeed. I spent my time off bushwhacking overgrown juniper, cutting down two aspen, moving 1000 lb. of paper around, and killing countless aliens in Halo 2. I did manage to spend some quality time with Live, though.

What are you going to do with a thousand pounds of paper?
He also owns http://paperjade.com/ so I imagine the answer to that question is "hopefully sell it."
Okay, a brief update on Rough Rider. I've been fooling with parameter ranges for the last four hours or so, and I've got this bitch sounding _good_. (Or, at least, good to me.) I'm going to wrap up for the day and start the re-render of the UI, which will take all night because I don't have an 8-core computer. Assuming that doesn't fuck up, we'll move on to the Mac stuff tomorrow. I would be _very_ surprised if this wasn't out by Friday.

Nice! And I forgot it was FREE! I'm really hoping that Audio Damage's idea of compression jibes with mine (probably does). Much appreciated, guys.
One of these days I'll have to do a database search to figure out whether anyone buys both plug-ins and origami paper from me.
