Holy Fuck, that's awesome.

Damn, I love the public domain.

**TD** (2008-09-01):

that's dope mate!

**myrnaloy** (2008-09-01):

Very well done! The whole thing kept me riveted for the duration.

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-01):

Thanks, all. I'm just pissed that Vimeo's stats feature is broken, so I don't know how many views it had, and it got linked to by some fairly big blogs.

Oh, well.

Gear used?

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-01):

Hmmm. Let's see...

Both of the synth lines are MKS80. The drum loop (which you can hear by itself in a couple places) is from the MachineDrum, running through Automaton, which is what's causing the "glitch" stuff you hear in the drums.

The 808 foot, the normal foot, the clap, and the snare are all from the Goldbaby XRB sample set (which I've been getting a lot of use out of lately.) All the drum sounds (including the loop) are going to a group, and the group has Kombinat on it for a bit of tone shaping, and a UI-less version of our upcoming free compressor does the squishing.

There is an FX send with Reverence on it, and another with Ricochet. The only non-AD effects used are the channel EQs in Cubase (which I generally use when doing electronic music) and a Sonalksis MaxLimit on the 2-buss. The "marching" sound and the bell ringing shit are from the video itself.

I downloaded the MP4 from Prelinger, snipped off the front and back in FCE, rendered a low quality MOV, moved that over to my PC and imported it to Cubase. I then did the audio in Cubase, according to the normal methods for doing so. I rendered the audio out of Cubase back to the Mac, imported it to FCE and lined it up with the video.

I made the little "micronaut" intro bit in 3D Studio Max and rendered it as an MOV, which I moved to FCE. All the text is done directly in FCE. I rendered the movie at the original size of the MP4, and put that on Vimeo and YouTube. (The which you can download from the Vimeo site, 134 megs.)
