**Karhide** (2008-09-25):

I've just downloaded but won't be able to have a play till tomorrow. Can't wait to see what fun is in store!

**CarlLofgren** (2008-09-25):

I'm generally not a compressor kind of guy, but Kombinat blew my mind, and you giving away this for free is... very generous. Thanks a lot guys.

**Funkybot** (2008-09-25):

This one blew my mind. It lets through tons of low end and just beefs that up, and works as an awesome distortion box. This really does that Dave Fridmann kind of drum-super-compressor/distortion thing quite well, but in it's own way.

Question: is that a hard clipper right before the output? Not getting any overs makes abusing this thing a treat. Well thought out.

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-25):

Yes, a filter/clipper combination sits on the 2-buss.

**semtek** (2008-09-25):

Very nice indeed. Tried it on a selection of drum kits on the bus. Unlike many compressor plug ins, this sounds equally at home with acoustic and electronic kits. I still can't quite believe you're giving this away, I'd have paid for it without a second thought. Big up.

Congratulations on another great plug, I shall be picking up the liquid/vapour/fluid plugs to (almost) complete my AD collection in honour.

**shelfboy** (2008-09-25):

awesome!

**parris** (2008-09-25):

Thanks.................Very nice..................

**frugalpole** (2008-09-25):

does it work in protools...........................................

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-25):

Is the period character stuck on the comment entry form or something?

-CR

**studio nebula** (2008-09-25):

For the record: I think it was CR's idea, originally, to make this one a freebie, so thank him. OTOH I think I agreed to it immediately, so thank me, too. In any case it just seemed like the right thing to do. Have a good time with it, and thank you all (once again) for your ongoing support of our endeavors.

**lithic** (2008-09-25):

Thanks so much Chris and Adam... Rough Rider kicks major ass. I don't think I've ever had this much fun with a compressor plug.

**quantize** (2008-09-25):

Thanks guys, huge props!, I'm going to try it on my Fractal Hardcore Dubstep™ track immediately... :-)

**mikebeck** (2008-09-25):

To continue the comment theme: this compressor kicks an entire stack of ass. Thank you very, very much.

**TicTacShutUp** (2008-09-25):

I laughed out loud when I automated that Active knob.

You guys fucking rock!

**bleen** (2008-09-25):

THANK YOU!!!!! just downloaded and i'll be giving it a go all day tomorrow on this record i'm mixing - kinda acoustic/folk/al-country but it needs some dynamics love and the artist wants it squishy in places.

**bduffy** (2008-09-25):

Personally, I don't think it's that big a deal to have presets with compressor. Of course people have to adjust the compressor as per material, but presets give the user an idea of what the designer had in mind when they made it. Then again, this thing is simple as fuck.

Thanks for the awesome compressor, Chris. Love the high end rolloff! Really hits the drums in the sweet spot! :D

**sszzeepp** (2008-09-25):

Thanks! this is exactly how I imagined and wanted it to be!

**theshamblers** (2008-09-25):

Thanks!!! Can't wait to try it out! AD is the shit!

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-25):

Note that if you were having a little crashy behavior using Reaper or eXT2, you might want to grab the Windows installer again. There was a little bug up in there that we done fixed.

-CR

**bongo_x** (2008-09-26):

Wow, thank you very much. I have a ton of compressors but I'm still glad to have this one and can see I'm going to use it a lot.

**fiasco** (2008-09-26):

If you want to hear rough rider on drums, double bass, piano, saxes, horns, vocal etc ...
download here : https://rcpt.yousendit.com/609721748/b67baa3b6b35fe632523be3b56ae94bd

I mix it as a test, and yes there is a rough rider on everything.
(and yes, i like it)

**Throe** (2008-09-26):

thanks for the (great) freebie! i'm trying to narrow my compressor list down to 3-5 and this will definately be one of them. great job guys!

**MidiMonk** (2008-09-26):

Thank you Chris/Adam for an amazingly fun compressor, in the midst of a gout attack and being told to be off your feet all day was dull till this arrived.

**Bodan** (2008-09-26):

thank you very much for such a powerful and useful plugin!

**johan** (2008-09-26):

Thanks guys! Downloading and testing now but I doubt, as per usual with your stuff, I'll be anything but superpleased!

**semtek** (2008-09-26):

Stayed up til 2am playing with this then had some of the wierdest dreams I have had in ages, including world leaders falling, the English royal family, the Sopranos. I blame the compressor.

**umanoid** (2008-09-26):

ah its xmas time in September...Thanks ! I'm working on an entry for the current Radiohead remix contest so i think i know exactly the place i want to try this puppy out.
cheers

**paul** (2008-09-26):

This is great, thanks chaps!

**dm** (2008-09-26):

Very nice. The reverse threshold was a little weird at first.

**Tomer** (2008-09-26):

This one is a massive smasher!
Just what my newest track needed for drum ParaComp.

**Downpressor** (2008-09-26):

thank you!

**defiant** (2008-09-26):

Thank you very much, Chris and Adam!

**stevo83** (2008-09-26):

Cheers to Chris and Adam for making this free, and also for making it in the first place.

**boobs** (2008-09-26):

awesome. thanks for this. i think it'll be quite useful and fun. nice gui btw.

**Aenemone Carbuncler** (2008-09-26):

just wanted to say thanks! looks great, won't be able to try it for a bit.

**bryantewell** (2008-09-26):

I was planning on buying this plugin sometime, and when I found out it was free I immediately downloaded and used it on a mix, and now its staying there. This thing is amazing! I'm really liking its use on vocals. I'm gonna go ahead and buy a plugin now simply because I like this one so much! -Bryan

**boobs** (2008-09-26):

this thing is awesome! and it has more foreign policy experience than sarah palin! win win.

**blinkman** (2008-09-26):

Brilliant! As I had hoped, this compressor has real character while remaining quite versatile and absolutely "pro" in sound an operation. Not at all what one should expect from a free plug.

Big thanks to Chris and Adam!

**Magnakai** (2008-09-26):

Awesome work guys. Thank you so very, very much for making such a nice compressor, and thank you twice as much again for giving it away for free.

It sounds great on a nasty kick sound, and worked wonders on a messy IDM-style track I was having trouble work.

I'll put the money saved on a decent compressor towards your next goodie.

**MrMZ** (2008-09-26):

Thanks for the free and very interesting compressor guys. Really enjoying the distortion end of things.
I had some extra cash (not a lot) but read about the 914 filter bank in another thread for moar bass and bought it. I like it a lot.
I am excited to have two excellent tools for making my tracks sound less Abletonized now.

My weekend is looking to be very enjoyable for me and not my neighbors hahaha.

Keep up the good work and don't stop raising the bar.

**ashtarbrian** (2008-09-26):

again good job adam and chris... was up all night mixing your old friend matt walker, chris, and this bad boy was just the trick... can't wait to venture it out into other applications....

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-26):

It's funny you say that, Brian, as one of the main things I was using while I was "tuning" Rough Rider was a loop of Matt's drumming. So one could make the argument that Rough Rider was specifically designed to act as a 2-buss compressor for Matt Walker's drumming. ;-)

-CR

**ashtarbrian** (2008-09-26):

that's hilarious! i just called matt and told him, and he had a good laugh and was just going to the site to download it.... awesome, good to know i picked the right tool for the job!

again, thanks, and look forward to all your designs... maybe we should make an addition of some walker drum bus presets! :)

**meeglosh** (2008-09-27):

Am I the only one asleep at the wheel for this announcement, or simply the bearer of beautiful news?

http://www.summitaudio.com/everest.html

I'm obsessing so hard right now.

**puffer** (2008-09-27):

Did anyone else watch Colbert on Thursday, the Roosevelt-off? I know this appears off-topic but there's a reason I bring this up.

(I don't know that that link will work outside the US but you should be able to find the clip somewhere.)

**thesimulacre** (2008-09-27):

**Wilson** (2008-09-28):

I realize I'm late the Ball as usual, but after reading the absolute nonsense that is the KVR thread (save for shamman, natch), I feel compelled to post my thank-yous and appreciation here.

So:

Thanks for making this compressor free! The thing I like best about RR is its handling of the low-end. RR seems to boom where other comps thin-out. Its punch is in the lower-mids whereas my other comps seem to get their punch from the shaping of high frequency transient material. The nice thing about the high-end roll off is that you don't get as much of the grating clickiness as the compressor chomps down. (Clicky isn't quite the right word, but it's an unpleasant compressor artifact.)

I really don't feel like I know enough to determine whether RR is God's Gift to Compression or not, but I do know that it's a tool that'll definitely get some use here. Thanks!

**Chris Randall** (2008-09-28):

It's just a matter of time until someone calls me a Nazi in that thread.

**synthetic** (2008-09-28):

I love Kombinat!
Love it love it love it!
I use it on every track!
Apple loops sound cool and hip!
Kombinat. Yeah!
