Rough Rider Update...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

I’ve added a Rough Rider page to the AD store, so you can gaze longingly at a screenshot and some bullet points.

"We left off the actual time values, so you're gonna have to use your ears, like the he-men did it in times of myth."

    Fantastic. Thank you.

Awesome. I am really excited about this.

And I agree about knob values.

    Everyone uses presets anyway ;)

People use presets on a compressor? My faith in people has been shaken.

Actually, that makes me chuckle, because I was pondering how to do the presets. I was thinking about how input-dependent a compressor or equalizer was, yet people still payed money for Chris Lord-Alge presets for some reason.

In any event, what I did was put the first preset as a reasonable starting state, then a couple of the NUKE settings which will have the same result on most anything. There are only 5, so I thought that was pretty reasonable.

You could always market it as having presets by Chris Lord-Randall. Then again, marketing a free product probably isn't the best use of time or money.

    with all due respect, chris-

(and as someone who loves the AD presets as a whole)

i would thing even 5 presets is overkill. i could imagine maybe 3... but compression is the most personal of all fx/plugs/etc...

in that respect, compression is almost like the j.s. bach 'solo cello suites': everyone has their own ideas of exactly how it should sound, no matter what anyone else has done in the past, present or future..

that said- rough rider is free and i am happy to have it regardless how many or how little presets come with it. so, um, yeah.... just do what you do.

Maybe I'll put in just one preset, using CR's "reasonable starting state", and name it "Educate Thyself".
