BigSeq 2

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

Just a little update about this. We’re well in to the from-scratch rewrite at this point. Adam has been working on the new controls we’ll need, and I’m working on the UI itself. This is entirely new code; nothing from the original BigSeq will be in this plug-in.

Now, that said, it will maintain the entire functionality of the original BigSeq, and have most of the features asked for in the threads from earlier this year, as well as the various emails we’ve received over BigSeq’s lifespan. A brief rundown:

1. There will be six effects. Each effect will have its own gate sequencer and modulation sequencer. The mod sequencer will be able to affect any control in that effect other than “active,” which is controlled by the gate sequencer. Each effect’s sequencer is running on its own timebase, so you can have, say, 4 steps of 32nd notes on the VCA and 16 steps of quarter notes on the Filter, if you’d like.

2. The order of the effects can be changed, so you can have all six in any way you’d like between the input and the output.

3. We’re still working on the exact complement of effects, but I can say that we’re definitely including a delay, the filter will definitely be multi-mode, and the VCA will definitely have panning.

As far as release dates and whatever, I don’t have any idea at this point. We’ve got a lot done, but there’s a lot to do. The things we needed to invent for it are invented, so the hardest part is over. It will be a $10 upgrade for existing BigSeq owners, and will be $49 for new customers, I can say that much.

Would be cool to have a pretty D16 style interface.

    KLEE mode easter egg too!

It would be cool to have a D16 style interface? Really? Is that where you want to go with that?

But will it have a flashy new name? "Big Seq 2" is a little too "Home Alone Part 2"

"Is that where you want to go with that?"

I like the crisp, sharp look on their plugs-but would prefer easy step accessibility over anything else.
So, I guess that means realistic is out.

Would be nice if it looked chunky and heavy like the innerclock systems stuff.

Personally I really love the 'look' of the AD plugs you guys have been doing, the Kombinat looks wicked as does Rough Rider, so I don't think you need to change your house style at all!

BigSeq2 sounds pretty exciting, the multi time base sequencer and six effects types... juicy.

Have you guys played with the Sugar Bytes effectrix at all? I'm personally not that keen on how it sounds but the idea is interesting...

There are two products remaining in the queue that have 3D interfaces, then we'll be moving to a wholly procedural drawing environment, and our interfaces will necessarily become modern ("computer" in the parlance) as a result.

Needless to say, the interface for BigSeq 2 (and that is what it will be called) is not 3D; there's just too much information to display.

As far as Effectrix goes, it is obviously the next step from something like BigSeq (1), and in any event, I download essentially every demo that is released, aside from my normal NFR exchanges, in the interest of keeping up with the Joneses. We are interested in pointing out three things, since the convergent evolution is undeniable:

1 - BigSeq 1 came out before Effectrix; BigSeq 2 is a logical extension of BigSeq 1.

2 - BigSeq 2 will cost just shy of a third as much as Effectrix.

3 - BigSeq 2 will necessarily sound very different than Effectrix; it will have a far more sophisticated suite of sequencers which will obviously enable more sophisticated rhythms. It is also generally additive, whereas Effectrix is generally subtractive, effects-wise.

In the name of all that is good, that is a very impressive feature set! I'm really looking forward to this.

Can't wait; sounds like all the things I was wishing for in BigSeq1.
Personally, I don't care about 3D interfaces for plug-ins unless they convey more information. While an attractive design is fun, I prefer the features to be clear, which I think you have done well thusfar.

I do find the measure-based timing of BigSeq a bit confusing at times especially because I often write in meters other than 4/4 in 16th notes... I am not sure how or if hosts report meters to plug-ins so even though the subdivisions are in sync, the downbeats aren't. I would prefer a step-size/step-number system, which allows any meter. (though having the plug-in having its own meter is also cool as well, as long as it is by choice)

ehdyn, seriously, are you trolling here or what? Why would you come on a manuafacturer's website and say their product should look like another manufacturers product but not because of any practical reason but because of looks? That's cheeky and impolite.

Hey Rolls Royce why don't you make a car that looks like a Delorean?

On another note, there has to be a little joke about Big Seq 2 being a Big Seq(uel), I'm just too tired to think of it. Can someone else make the joke please?
