As you no doubt know if you've been reading this site for more than, say, a week or so, you'll no doubt know that I do get a kick out of putting our more flamboyant requests for NFRs up here. This is one of the better ones we've received, for sure. The best? No. Definitely up there, though:

_Hello!
My name is XXXXXXXX.
Live in Moscow.
I the professional musician and the composer.
I very, very much like your product - Replicant, very high quality
and good work.
It is a miracle for my music.
I now do the musical project for the Europe, in a genre pop-music.
Producers speak that this project will be very successful.
I have an offer for you.
You to me it is free-of-charge Replicant, and I place the
information on your company, on CD with my projects, on my site
(it will work in the autumn), e.t.c.
Unfortunately, I cannot buy your products yet, ...while financial
difficulties,
and use cracked version I do not want.
I hope for understanding.
Excuse for my English.
I very look waiting forward to hearing.
Thanks.

_You have to give him points for poetry, right?

Dude, he's working with Europe! Hook him up. It's the Final Countdown motherfuckers!!!

**ehdyn** (2008-10-10):

Might as well.
Maybe it's the next Phil Collins.

**involver** (2008-10-10):

I keep getting emails like that from Russia. Give him points for confessing his piracy and wanting to be legit though eh? Cheeky bastard.

What continues to astound me is these musicians cannot come up with $50 US (which is like, what, 2 euros now?) for a useful tool, and have no problems "use cracked version".

Yet they want 1,000,000 people to spend $10-$20 US on their magical, wonderful musical opus when we are drowning in free music.

I know, I know - they're artists, they're special and so forth. I guarantee they'll spend $50 on LUNCH at the studio today...

**Chris Randall** (2008-10-10):

That "like 2 euros now" is something of a red herring. The dollar had a major rebound in the last two weeks; it is about where it was before all this started, at $1.70 the pound and $1.30 the Euro. The Canadian dollar is back down to 80 cents, where it should be, and the Australian dollar is at 65 cents.

For a company that does roughly half (if not more) of their business with Europe and Australia, this is a bit of a problem. ;-)

I just checked those exchange rates, and I'm fucking shocked. Maybe that's what happens when the the rest of the world realizes that Obama's going to win. (not that our puny 6 or 7 electoral votes in Oregon is gonna change anything)

I have to say that, having lived in Japan for three years at this point, I am completely unimpressed with that dude's mangling of the English language. I've seen way worse. And I've mangled Japanese far worse in front of roomsful of people.

the dollar may have had a rebound against the pound & euro, but being an american living in the UK now... i can say that it is *still* is cheaper than paying in $.

one of my pet peeves over here is when the brits complain about buying products from the states now being SO EXPENSIVE, just because it is no longer a full 2:1 ratio.

cry me a river. their usual doubled buying power has been reduced by 25%. oh well, join the rest of the world.

australians on the other hand.. well, they always get the shaft. sorry guys.

Technically, he already has a free version, so why bother asking? Like, if you'd been stealing cereal from the grocery store for awhile, and then went in one day and said "Hey, this cereal really starts my morning off right. I'm broke as hell right now, but other people tell me I'll be famous and rich soon. If you start giving me this cereal I'll tell everyone about how good it is (and I won't be stealing anymore!).

Maybe you should just send him an invoice, CR.

**BirdFLU** (2008-10-10):

I read "use cracked version I do not want" as him saying he does NOT want to use cracked software. This makes sense as he's incorporating an ethical appeal into his larger request; "Oh Mr. Replicant maker, I am trying to hard to take a stand against pirates, I am on your side!"

At least we all now know that Moscow is full of techno.

The problem is that generally, Russia is one hell of a ghetto (no, it's not an euro country nor a part of Europe)... Some people are damn rich and most people are damn poor, and it's not really a surprise someone can't afford even $50. For example, I remember there have been several Russian people at Renoise forums complaining that the prices should be lower because they can't do anything but use cracked versions otherwise.

Kind of fucked in there, although it kind of escapes me how the very same people can afford computers, internet access and gear. Many Russians are cheeky like hell too, though... This is from someone who lives in a neigbouring country and knows some immigrants from that country. :P
