It may come as a shock to you completionists out there, but I'm _still_ moving. Hopefully, this nonsense will be over Saturday, and I can return to my previous lifestyle, which generated, like, income and stuff.

Until that heady day comes to pass, I'm exceedingly out of the loop. I mean that in a somewhat literal sense, as you'll soon be able to piece together, and we'll laugh and laugh. It seems that in the last several days there has been quite a bit of action on the sample-set front. ("within the sample set" was my first choice of phrasing there, but I thought it might be a little oblique.) It seems that two of our favorite sample providers have had Stuff that has Happened this week. I'd like to apologize in advance to the companies, the both of which are good friends of mine, for lumping them all together and providing almost no information you can't just make up yourself, but I'm so exhausted I can barely type, let alone poop out coherent sentences.

**Goldbaby Vinyl Drum Machines.** It seems Hugo has run out of tape, and has turned to a new medium. I'm all for it, and downloading now, but I dearly hope he doesn't turn to 1st gen MiniDisc next. ("FLAC Drum Machines!") That said, this has all the earmarks of being the coolest of the sets he's done. I say that without having listened to any of the samples yet, of course. Long story short, it seems he's made dub plates of various drum sounds, then sampled those in his normal unimpeachable style. Product page is [here.](http://goldbaby.co.nz/vinyldrummachine.html) US$29.00.

**Puremagnetik Bender.** This is, as the name implies, a sample set of circuit-bent Stuff. I could probably do without ever hearing a fucked up Speak 'n' Spell again ever in my entire whole life, but that aside, this is probably fairly usable. The download just finished on this. Product page is [here.](http://puremagnetik.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=158&Itemid=161) It's a micropak, and thus part of their subscription, which is well worth the money, in my opinion.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Soniccouture also did something interesting this week, or has something interesting coming, but in perusing my email and their site, I can find no mention of it. So, apologies to James et al if I for some reason missed something I should by all rights be talking about, but moving seems to lower my IQ significantly.

Yeah, Soniccouture released smaller versions of their Gamelan pack.

Just waiting for the Battery version of Hugo's vinyl set before I order (not that the .wav files alone wouldn't be mostly the same thing, but for some reason I always feel the need to wait for the Battery files).

Picked up the vinyl set as soon as I got the email. And although I haven't even upzipped it yet, I'm excited as hell. At this rate though, he's gonna put himself out of business.

I was pleasantly surprised by the samples on the Future Music DVD this month. The trance sounds were naturally as boring as anything else in that genre, but the industrial sounds were quite interesting and the criminal damage was outright brillriant - bent stuff but very well done.

I love this Goldbaby stuff. The analog autorhythms are my favourite so far, along with the immense 808 packs.

I can't recommend these things enough. Perfect quality and a great price.

**huggie** (2009-02-28):

I have been experimenting with velocity switching between the different record player versions of each drum sound. Hit a pad/key lightly and and it plays the plastic portable turntable version, hit it harder and it and plays the audiophile version and hit it really hard and it plays the vintage record player version.

Makes for some interesting dynamic drum machine sounds...
