Pierre Shaeffer T-Shirt Ordering...
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
EDIT: SOLD OUT!
You can now pre-order the Pierre Schaeffer t-shirt here. The pricing and shipping is all the same as the Delia shirt. We’re going to do it a bit differently this time, though. We’re going to allow pre-orders until Tuesday, then whatever is ordered by that point is all there is, period. This way, nobody will be left out in the cold vis-a-vis sizes and such.
If you’d like a little history about Pierre so you can sound informed when people ask who that dude on your shirt is, you could do worse than starting with the (rather bland) Wikipedia article. If you read the entry on musique concrete, which is necessarily Schaeffer-centric, there are some descriptions of the interesting instruments he designed, one of which he’s playing on the shirt artwork.
EDIT: SOLD OUT!

So will this shirt be brown? If so, I'm in, as its probably the color I look best in (though I'm also loving my Delia shirt)
The way you know it's gonna be brown is by the charming (yet somehow still ruggedly handsome) way I say "the shirt is ... dark brown" on the order page. That, and the brown picture.
Just sayin'

got mine in. as they say on the internet, whupti.
Okay ordered my shirt.
I would like to thank all the brown voters out there that made my dream of a brown Pierre Schaeffer t-shirt a reality in two to three weeks.
It's been a fun couple of days, considering I missed the Delia boat, not to mention I feel like the internet is a magical place where ones personal input can really actually make a difference in the physical world of material goods.
I campaigned for brown and I got brown.
Bravo Chris Randall. You have restored my faith in the power of Teh Netz.
& to all a goodnight!
oh, sorry CR, I posted that before I looked at the order page, and I'm also partially colorblind and for some reason the picture looked like a black shirt when I looked at my laptop screen on an angle instead of straight on. Of course, as soon as I look at it correctly, it's definitely brown.
I already placed an order.
All good.

Sooo, at risk of sounding too much like a poser, can someone recommend a good place to dive into Schaeffer's (and/or GRM's) recorded output? Thanks to a few books I read a several years ago about experimental music and 20th century composers I'm very aware of his role in basically laying the foundation for all sorts of music I happen to enjoy, but aside from a few tracks on various "early electronic music" comps, I don't have any of his recordings. I've got a few Boulez and Varese discs, but Schaeffer is a hole in my collection. Perhaps he's more important as a conceptualist and I'm fine just having a few examples of his work, but if there's a must-have Schaeffer disc, please let me know.
And Chris, so far these shirts are great. Negative space in design= teh awesomeness. I hope you were serious about some of the other names you mentioned for potential future shirts, too...
We'll probably do four, all told. As far as the art goes, you have Stefan to thank for that. My input consisted largely of "hey, do you think you could stick a space invader in there somewhere?"

Also, note that he is selling high-quality prints of these images, which you can get here: http://stefangoodchild.bigcartel.com/
Once we get this one packed up and out the door, we'll probably do a poll to decide the next one; I'll go through and cull all the previous suggestions from the other threads on the subject down to 5 or 6. After we do the people, we might do a series of four of important pieces of gear that don't normally get a shirt, like the Nagra II, that sort of thing.

ooh... underrated gear? an analog industries tee for every day of the week... plus one?
not sure. what. to do. with. that.
There's a 3-CD set of all of Pierre Schaeffer (& Pierre Henri)'s key output called L'Oeuvre Musicale. I believe I ordered mine directly from GRM several years ago when I was writing my "History of 20th Century Music" course.
It has excellent liner notes as well.
You probably won't listen to it more than twice, almost certainly won't like it, but it is something you should own.
