Gee, Thanks Apple!

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

New Logic Studio out today. I’m embarrassed to admit I knew nothing about it. At all. Of course, I don’t make a habit of checking every day to see what new and exciting things are happening with those bong-smoking hippies in Cupertino, so there’s that, and I apologize.

That said, it isn’t in my ADC account. I don’t know if it wasn’t seeded to devs at all, or just wasn’t seeded to me (always a possibility) but I didn’t hear a single peep about it until this morning. But the upshot is that I can’t test our stuff with it until I have it, so I’ll be busy sending off missives to the various people I’ve been in touch with to see if I can’t get a copy for testing. Until then, we have no reason to expect that there’s any issues with AD products and Logic 9. Anyone that could verify that before me will win my undying gratitude.

As far as features of the new one go, as you all know I left Logic years ago for other pastures, and use Cubase 5 and Live 8 for 99% of my production work these days (depending on what I’m trying to accomplish) so from a producer’s standpoint, as opposed to a developer’s, I have nothing to offer on the new one except that it seems that GarageBand and Logic are showing convergent evolution. Some of the audio editing features look kind of cool, but nothing really grabs me by the neck and shakes me about. The only really nifty thing seems to be the new Apogee floor controller, really.

EDIT: Someone that has a fair portion of our catalog, and has been beta-testing Logic 9, just wrote to say that he’s had no issues whatsoever with AD stuff.
