Yeah, well...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

For some ridiculous reason, I got in my head to buy a Kurzweil K250. Perhaps those dreams I have of replacing Paul Schaeffer on Letterman are finally coming to fruition. Anyhow, I’ve got one now. Sorry for the shit photo, but I didn’t have my camera with me, so the worthless POS iPhone camera had to suffice.

In any event, it is ensconced at RT60 HQ, as it is too motherfucking PHATTTTT!!111! for my own little office/studio. (Look at how it utterly dwarfs the Jupiter 6, which is not a small synth.) It is actually fully upgraded with both ROM blocks, so I can score an entire episode of NYPD Blue without even having to crack a hard drive. Should the need arise, of course.

All kidding aside, the keyboard action in this bitch is second to none, period. A real hammer action with wooden keys. Forget about it. The internal sounds range from “oh, please” to really fucking hot, and I still don’t think anyone has made a better sample of a grand piano. Now I need to find a Mac Plus (shouldn’t be hard) and a copy of the librarian software so we can do things proper.

Throw some blankets on there and you'll have a place for your guests to sleep.

Damnit - now I want one. And I live in a tiny apartment the size of a breadbox.

@synthetic: there's no fucking way. This thing is gigantic, and essentially un-replaceable.

i thought it ended where the keys stop but there's a whole case/shelf like thing that is huge all the way around. wtf. that thing is a beast.

well, it may save your life someday. in 2012 if the earth wobbles and we find ourselves up to our eyeballs in sea water you could gut it and fill it foam and live on it.

Yeah. That shelf thing is for putting your computer on, I guess. And about six more synths. And your extended family. If you haven't seen one of these in real life, you can't really comprehend how big it is.
