(Re)Organized...

My epic 2-day office reorganization is coming to a close. All that’s left is to clean up the collateral damage. I think I’ll be able to cut down on the clutter now, as I won’t have to move 8 things every time I want to record something.

It’s always a bit of a trial to move the PC side of the rig (the left hand rack) simply by virtue of the fact that the cabling is pretty complex. But a couple quick tests seem to indicate that everything is in order, and I think I came up with a better clocking scheme in the process.

Nice. The metal shelves and plastic racks are killing the vibe, though. Is the right hand rack the one that's going on tour?

Assuming we "tour" in the traditional sense of the word, it'll be anvil racks. But I don't have the luxury of owning a house, and thus my shit has to be able to move all the time. When we have a permanent home (hopefully by February) I'll have my uncle, who is a high-end cabinet maker, build me walnut racks and a proper desk.

But to answer your question, yes, the right-hand rack is the one for shows. And as soon as I manage to get to the bank, you'll Have A Payment! for that TX802. ;-)

Better clocking? Do tell. You using the converters on the Eventide? You said they were stellar, no?

  4. Chris Randall

I have a Mytek. Why would I use the converters on the Eventide?

(That is a rhetorical question. I wouldn't. Plus, the way the internal routing is set up, it's exceedingly difficult to use the XLRs for A/D/A _and_ use the effects separately.)

I thought you could buy a house in the US for about 5 cents these days...

Awesome setup, do I spy an Apple IIc in there?

@krell: see previous post plus one re: the Apple //e. And no, you can't buy a house in the US for 5 cents. You might want to check your country's news agencies for accuracy. You can buy a house in _Detroit_ for a dollar, but that's been the case since the late 80s.

I see you have the 1st edition of Musical Applications of Microprocessors on the shelf. The 2nd edition had a little on your apparently departed Kurzweil, but not that much of interest. All the good stuff seems to be in the 1st edition.

Also, how is Processing to work with?

Yeah, that's right, I see a picture of gear porn, and I check out the books. Nerd Win!

Processing is Java In Disguise. If you can stand Java, you can stand Processing. Although any time I use it for something, I'm left with the lingering impression that it'd be easier just to make a proper C++ app with OpenGL. Like most Java-based environments, it is absolutely useless for music. Think of it as Logo Xtreme and you'll be in good shape.
