Various Things...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

In no particular order…

1. Ableton Live Users Group PDX meeting was fun and informative. If you need proof, I actually had two beers, which is one more than I normally would drink in a public scenario. I was about .01 blood alcohol level away from krumping on a cocktail table.

2. What’s that Smiths song? “Bigmouth Strikes Again” or something like that? They’re way more than a pop band, really.

3. I guess it was only those two things for now. Pecking away at this new UI. I’m trying to decide if I should round the corners of the panels. This learned article seems to suggest that I should. But perhaps this product should have sharp edges, and the visual cues should indicate such? I don’t know.

Sharp Edges. In fact, I'd highly recommend a triangle. Why?

"Because The Triangle is also a concept map between three points. But it is not merely a concept... it is both a collection of points and a shape."

    Ugghhhhh, yacht.

Following that fucktard's logic, I'm going to go steal some guitars for my next album.

Apparently they don't have enough money to pay for cheap plug-ins, but they can, you know, afford all of their hipster fashion sense. I'm a college student for chrissakes, and I can afford your plug-ins. Here's what you do: stop smoking your clove cigarettes for a week or two, and skip your next flock of seagulls haircut. Hey, now you can pay for Replicant.

I think what drives me up the wall the most is that Pitchfork just gave him the "best new music" label, which means he's financially solid for at least the next year or two.

What the idiot doesn't realize is even if his music gets pirated, he's still making plenty of bank with concerts and merch. With you guys, you have plug-ins, and a few shirts.

Hopefully karma will kick in and someone jacks his tour van.

i'm positive a plug-in with rounded edges sounds better...

He makes a statement there about music being pirated more than software. I'd be interested to learn if anyone had actually done any kind of comparison on the matter. Who gets ripped off more, software developers or musicmakers?

  5. solipstnation

His music is getting panned on the iTunes store.

Glad to see he's still a douchebag.

I think if you just look at volume, they're about the same. Pure dollars-wise, I would think the software industry would be out more cash. Think of all the people that have never paid for Photoshop or 3D Studio Max.

That's my assumption, too. I know people who probably haven't paid for software since playing a pirated version of Ghosts n Goblins on their C64.

that learned article is too learned for its own good. but i guess someone has to think about those things, right?

"A great thinker, he formalized the conceit that triangles are the strongest representational shape and that great, strong, synergistic structures can be made out of triangles that are the most suitable for human needs. Making the most out of the least."

If I ever, ever, get enough downloads or sell enough cds to warrant various indie blogs to want an interview from me, can everyone, ever, agree to smack me senseless if I say anything like the above? I'm sure stock answers like "I like David Bowie," "I use a couple of Dave Smith synths because they're nicely priced and I like the sound," "My songs are about the usual things like love, how people are mean in nightclubs, space rockets and hating my job," "I think bees are pretty cool," "I don't download music because I like physical products w/ a sleeve and decent sound quality," "I pay for my software so I can make the most of it, and it's nice to sell the odd cd because perhaps the person who bought it can do the same with my music" will be just fine. Maybe not interesting, but honest, at least.
