Adam is back from the exotic orient, so we're about to get back to slogging away at Discord 3. As usual, doing an update of this magnitude is almost more difficult than just making a new plug-in entire, especially when we're shoehorning in major engine changes. But that said, once Adam gets over his jetlag (which, historically, takes about 11 months) we've got a fairly short path to completion on this one.

Also too (God, I love that phrase), I'm only a couple mixes away from being done on the Micronaut EP; naturally, I'll have full information on that when it is completed.

And finally, I made fairly good progress on DronestationX over the weekend, so the three AI readers that have iPads will have something new to play with pretty shortly. I'm doing the UI entirely procedurally; it is a PNG-free zone (except for the little icon thing, which necessarily has to be a PNG, according to Apple Canon.) This is kind of interesting, but let me state for the record that giving things rounded corners increases the difficulty of making a procedural UI by an order of magnitude. I'll have a screenshot soon; my major goal with this was not to shoehorn a picture of an analog instrument on to the iPad, but rather to revel in the paradigm of the device. I'm writing this synth specifically for that paradigm, in order to take advantage of the form-factor, rather than trying to work around it.

(And that will streamline the fuck out of your workflow.)

Anyhow, this is an open thread. The subject, if I may be so bold, is blatant self-promotion. We haven't done this in a while. This is the opportunity to promote your music, or that of someone you respect that others might not know about. The only rule is that you can't just throw a link. Sell that shit!

well, i guess i'll jump in first
bubblesound's new waveshapper, the cvWS, is finishing up and will be hitting the stores in about 2 weeks. retail - $130USD

here's a preview of the module
http://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8650&highlight=cvws

and a couple of videos of it in action
saw shaper demos

sine shaper demo
http://vimeo.com/4851272

this is our first dual function module, it's the 2 waveshapers from the uLFO broken out and ready for misuse. the saw shaper can act as sort of a voltage controlled ring modulator while the sine shaper pretty much does what it says. this is not some wavefolder, distortionator or serge rip off. this is a unique waveshaper. while it's great at doing just what it says, making saws and sines, it's when you start feeding the saw shaper 2 waves from different VCOs or 2 pulses instead of a square and triangle that is becomes rather unpredictable. i like unpredictable a lot.
and we'll be showing the cvWS and the new bubblesound VCO prototypes at the AHNE meetup this sunday in Lowell, MA.

i'll gently pop this cherry.

"Really excellent electronic music, which is unique enough to defy any Categorization, other than that it sounds like something the UK label Skam would be jumping for, given they are clued into it's existence and aren't too busy releasing tremendous records by Bola."

by any chance, have you heard of opacity... it outputs vector drawings (with gradients, and dropshadows and stuff), to CGgraphics calls. This won't be compatible with your workflow if you are outside of UIKit, but otherwise, it seems to be pretty close to magic. All that said, I have yet to use it for an actual project.

**johan** (2010-04-19):

I'll be sticking out like a sore thumb around here with this most likely but here goes..
This is a lock, stock, smoking barrels, fight em all - blood and earth rock 'n' roll band I've just recorded a 3 track demo with. Lot's of AD love on this one.

blatant self-promotion? woo!

http://soundcloud.com/remaincalm/live-at-culture-jam-15-04-2010

three of us got together with a bunch of gronky 80's synths and a couple of iphones and did a totally improvised 2.5 hour set at a little gallery event recently. the link is that edited down to 60 minutes. i reckon it came out pretty good, seeing that we usually do, like, songs. that we write beforehand.

observation: it is much easier to make eye contact with the audience when you are playing guitar in a band than when you are hunched over synths and trying to set up beats and tweak a delay pedal with the spare hand you don't have and work out where that damn looped radio thing is coming from and GAH. stressful.

**Wade Alin** (2010-04-19):

Don't I have a PR person to do this? Ah, shit, no I don't. This is a unique sell for you: my band, The Atomica Project - is something I've been doing for 5-6 years. We've toured, sold a reasonable amount of CD's in this climate, done this done that. I recently changed vocalists, which is sort of a weird transition. I also recently got a hankering to do a full U.S. tour. The logic here is - the more people that hear this music, the more fans we'll get, the more people come to shows, etc. I guess I've just noticed a trend in people not even checking things out unless they are free to be had or taken. And it bothers me. So, as much as I'd love to sell a fuckton of CD's, it's become apparent that it's much more important that people just listen to the music we're making.

Our first 5 albums/EP's are free here -
