Conditional Blues...
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
In my copious free time (all 8 minutes of it yesterday) I’ve got an interesting implementation of my RNN (Retarded Neural Network) rhythm sequencer cooking in Pd, with a piano and synth part played live. I shot some video of this heady event, but it was less than pleasing, because I don’t own a Canon 5D Mk II, apparently. If I can come up with something that doesn’t look like it was shot on a circa 2003 cell phone I’ll put it up, with a full explanation.
(Related: Would it be totally offensive of me to do a Kickstarter campaign to buy an HD-capable DSLR? I think the answer to that is “yes.”)
Suffice to say, that right there is an image of Nerdgasm in its purest form. Imagine, if you will, if Jack White made IDM, and you’ll have a good idea of what I’ve got cooking here.

What is that little mixer you are using? I'm considering getting something small like that for just doing some multi-synth jamming without all the fuss of the computer, etc. and that might fit the bill. Unless it sucks, in which case I'll know to avoid it.
That's a Yamaha MW10; I picked it up a few years ago essentially for the same reason you want one. It's kind of handy because it has a class-compliant 2x2 USB audio interface built in, so you can jack it right in your lappy if you want to record a sketch or something.
It is, by no means whatsoever, anything approaching "pro," but it works and it's cheap. The only real super minus is that it doesn't have mute and solo buttons. If you can deal with this, it's a fine little piece for the money.
When I want to record anything I'm doing, though, it goes right in the closet. It is patently useless in my Workflow in that regard.

Chris, you should get yourself an Olympus E-P2 or E-PL1, along with the Panasonic 20/1.7 prime lens. DSLR quality video, small and lightweight, image stabilization, etc. I made this video with the E-P2/20mm combo:

The recent small Yamaha mixers have their analog 1-knob compression on the first two channels...I use this constantly for doing podcast interviews at work. The little compressors are terrific, considering how cheap the thing is...makeup gain is automatic so you don't have to futz with levels too much.
I have a ton of really good Nikkor glass, including a 30-year-old F1.2 50mm. I don't think I'll be getting an Olympus any time soon. If I was gonna go cheap, I'd get a D5000. If I wasn't, I'd get a 5D and get a couple Nikkor-Canon adapters for my non-AF lenses.
That video looks pretty good, but like most DSLR cameras used for video, you're getting bad, bordering on really bad, jellocam. In my limited experience, the Nikon stuff does better at this because it shoots 720P, thus there's less image to process every frame. But ours is not to reason why.
In a perfect world, I'd prefer to get a good "prosumer" HD video camera and add an SLR lens rig to it. But then I might as well get a 7D or 5D if I'm gonna do that.

I have a 5D2, but all my friends have a cinema degree so I don't even mess with video. Stretta does some decent stuff though, all tripod shots of course.
I'm bringing it to Japan, and I just got a 32GB card so I can shoot HD without watching the clock. I'm even toying with the idea of mounting a stereo microphone on it, I can't decide if that would be stupid or not.
+10000 on "If Jack White made IDM".
I hear you, in a perfect world I'd get a 5D mkii...I'm a Leica lens guy, though, so Micro 4/3 is an ideal digi platform. And I'm less fussy about my vids than you are.
Might want to hold off on the Mk II. There's been rumors recently of a MkIII and just a few days ago, a source reported that it would be released in 2011. Makes sense since Nikon is gaining ground on their recent camera releases, as well as Canon themselves introducing features in their lower lines that even the MK II doesn't have such as better AF zones.
Supposedly Canon will make an announcement at the big Photokina expo in Oct. Already saving up money for the upgrade.
I use AF about once a year, so that's not something that concerns me. I'd much rather have a Nikon than a Canon, given the choice, as the several thousand dollars in glass I already have would be fairly useless on a Canon. I was just throwing it out there as a poke at Stretta more than anything.
That said, if all of the people that read this blog in a week donated $2, you'd have yourself a fairly thick pile of 1080P video to sort through in short order. ;-) Make it $1, and you're stuck at 720P. But that's fine; easier to deal with all around anyhow.

I recently bought the 550D / Rebel T2i . It's like a smaller plastic version of the 7D... more or less. http://www.digitalrev.com/en/canon-eos-550d-vs-dot-7d-c-which-one-is-right-for-you-5244-article
I was going to get the 7D... until a photographer friend pointed me in the direction of the 550D.
I also bought a glide track: http://www.glidetrack.com/
My intention is to produce high class vintage drum machine and synth porn in HD...
