Start your Tuesday right with a little Marvin. In no particular order...

1\. AES. Ain't going. Something came up that precludes me from making the Pilgrimage. Not a big deal, and frankly the drive and expense are something I won't miss.

2\. Audio Damage. I won't tell you exactly what we're up to just yet, but I will say the following: its name is Phosphor, and it is a polysynth. The smarty pants among you can probably deduce what it is from those two hints. It is building very fast, and I may have something to show off next week.

3\. The Syncrosoft license control center eLicenser was built by assholes who hate everyone.

eLicencer? Are you guys going dongle/soft dongle - or just too much free time?

If you're dongle-izing - I don't mind. Got all kinds of keys and since I left Windows - I can't say I have any problems with any of them. The only thing I don't like about the eLicencer is that plugs always takes longer time to start.

Phosphor? Whatever it is, I hope it will make me sound like Batman. Or at least as The Coon.

**Chris Randall** (2010-11-02):

No fucking way are we dongleizing. No way, no how, not now, not ever.

I was just updating Cubase on all my machines, and I had to update the Syncrosoft license control center to eLicenser on one of the PCs, and it was incredibly irritating.

Lol(!) @ teh Dongle comment....

**Funkybot** (2010-11-02):

That's worrisome. After seeing Sonar X1, which 1) looks like a kiddie version of Sonar, 2) doesn't appear to address any of the issues I had with the old versions, and 3) is considerably cheaper than previous versions (i.e. total newbie bait, while not doing anything to address concerns of advanced users), I'm considering moving to a different DAW entirely.

Cubase has the dongle thing, which would annoy me to no end, but should be a bit more stable (right?). Reaper, on the other hand, insists on being difficult to get started with for the sake of speeding up workflow on the back end (which I hate), while still not being up to snuff MIDI wise.

Look like I'll be on version 8.5 of Sonar for another year or so as I examine my options.

**studio nebula** (2010-11-02):

FWIW I've been using Cubase for years, and hence a Syncrosoft dongle for years, and have never had any significant trouble with it. I had one update go awry once, but it was caused by *cough cough* user error, and was easily remedied.

I'm not a fan of dongles as such, but given my experiences with the Syncrosoft dongles I've used for Cubase and the Korg Legacy plug-ins, the use of Syncrosoft would not dissuade me from purchasing a product.

We have bags of e-licensers here. Several hundred. Maybe I could eBay them or something.

**syikom** (2010-11-03):

Phase Distortion Polysynth maybe who knows?

Say no to dongle

**mitchell** (2010-11-03):

My Arturia plugs use the Syncrosoft thingee, and whenever my authorizations time out, any Logic songs with Arturia plugs refuse to open. That's no fun. (I guess that's the price one pays for "industry accommodation")
