Since there was some interest in this, [here](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14963589/CMU_Live_Sampler.zip) is a Live project that contains the following:

1\. Drum Rack containing all the CMU-800R drum sounds.

2\. Sampler containing a multi-sampled version of the "Melody" voice of the CMU-800R. Note that the "Melody" voice and the "Chord" voice are exactly the same. The "Melody" one has a bit more extensive enveloping on it, so I just sampled that one.

3\. Sampler containing a multi-sampled version of the CMU "Bass" voice. This voice is slightly different, inasmuch as it has a Sallen-Key LPF on it, and a slightly different envelope. The oscillator source is the same, though.

If you don't have Live, or have Live but don't have Sampler, you can still dig the recordings out of the appropriate folder and make a multi-sampled instrument in your sampler of choice. These were recorded, like all my samples, through Purple BizMk mic pres in to the Mytek 8x192. Any noise you hear is a result of the device being sampled.

And finally, [here](http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14963589/CMU-800R.agr) is a Groove Template for Live made from the CMU-800R's sequencer. It is a one measure 16th note groove template, and definitely gives any cut the loping feel of the CMU-800R software sequencer. This is, of course, worthless in any other software; it'll only work in Live.

In any event, this should put to rest any lingering Interweb Bullshit that the CMU-800R is a 606 + 303 + four 101s, or whatever other nonsense people are spouting. It is more like a DR-55 + 5 totally unfiltered voices from a Juno 106 + some bass sound I can't even think of a simile for.

I always hear it's a 606 and some 106s. No filters eh? I really wish i had the 810.

**synchromesh** (2011-01-30):

So it only measures about 585 Rolands, rather than the hypothesised 1313 Rolands? Experimental results trump theoretical prediction! Behold the scientific method at work! More whisky! Hurrah! (P.S. please keep the studio vids coming. Thanks. Right, back to work...)

**Chris Randall** (2011-01-30):

The cymbal and hi-hats seem to have the 606 topology, but everything else is DR-55/DR-110/CR series topology, with some alterations. It's kind of its own thing, honestly. _Definitely_ not a 606 snare or foot, I'll say that much. You can plainly hear that in the samples.

The 810 is fucking impossible to find for cheapies, as everyone knows it's a perfectly viable 101 stand-in.

Hey Chris,

Enquiring minds would love to know... what made you select the Purple Biz Mk as opposed to another 500 series preamp like the 512c?

I ♥ the Alpha Syntauri Kontakt patches, BTW.
