Heading to L.A. in the morning to play my Big Show at Bar Sinister. (I'm on at 11PM. Wear black.) I've managed to rehearse my set several times with only minimal mistakes, the kind an audience would never notice. So I think I'm in pretty good shape. (He said, with admirable yet utterly mis-placed self confidence)

Concerns? None to speak of, except maybe the Manta. I've noticed that it gets a little... balky, I guess... when my fingers are wet. On the good side, it should be quite chilly, so no danger of sweating. On the minus, it's going to be pouring rain, so the relative humidity will be on the order of 120% or some such. I'll admit that I'm curious as to whether that will affect it. Not so curious as to actually _want_ to find out, of course.

I'm exploring using self-oscillating delays heavily throughout the set. Luckily, being half owner of a company that makes several delay products, I have a fairly good idea of what goes in to making a delay self-oscillate, and how to control same. My 2-buss effects rack is like a commercial for Audio Damage. For the hardware, I'm using the Eventide TimeFactor pedal, which oscillates quite nicely in certain modes.

In any case, this will be my first time on stage for some 5 years. I'll be recording the show, and the results will be available for download as soon as I get back to Tempe and edit out whatever fuck-ups are in the set.

have a good time.

if someone interrupts you while your playing and says "do you have any hip hop?" ... just say "yeah, tons" and just keep playing your set.

**Chris Randall** (2011-02-18):

I honestly doubt anyone would do that at this club. More likely they'll ask me if I could play "Bela Lugosi's Dead," "Temple Of Love," or "Cities In Dust."

But I have "When I Dip You Dip" locked and loaded, should the need arise.

Good luck, very much so looking forward to the live album.

Have a good time. Unfortunately I'm stuck in Hamburg, so I can't come and watch. ;)

I'm also looking forward to the recording! But please don't cut out the fuck-ups, they are what make a live-show authentic! ;)

Break a finger, or whatever it is we button pushers are supposed to say to each other.

Wish I could be there. Rock it!

p.s. "Cities In Dust" is cool, please play it as an encore.

**Chris Randall** (2011-02-19):

Cities In Dust is cool if you weren't in an industrial band and didn't have to spend every fucking night for ten fucking years hearing the same fucking playlist of mid-80s alternative "hits" over and fucking over and fucking over, while fat chicks stuffed in to black spandex sausage casings they mis-purchased at Hot Topic did the "find a quarter pick it up hold it up to the sky" goth dance.

If you had to do that, Cities in Dust is a long, long, LONG way from cool.

That said, I distinctly remember buying that 12" on the Tuesday it was released in Portland, Oregon, c. 1986 (?). You know what else came out that week? The Cult's "Love," which I bought the same day, in the quad 7" collector edition. Wish I still had that; it'd be worth some coin to the right goth chick. I'll sell the fuck out of some Sanctuary.

Also, an 11pm show at Bar Sinister? Oh, the 90's are back in full force! I think I'll watch the video for SMG - Not My God about a dozen times before you post video from the Bar Sinister gig... you know, just to get in the mood...

**Chris Randall** (2011-02-19):

Tip: the sweat in that video is Wizard Of Oz trickery. It was like a solid 25F in that unheated theatre, filmed in a Chicago January. Glycerin. The fun thing about that was finding out the next morning that if you spend a whole day with your face covered in glycerin, you'll spend the next week with your face covered in golf-ball sized zits.

For the next video, coincidentally filmed in the same theatre, also in January, I vetoed any and all glycerin, so instead they lit my Armani suit on fire with sparks from a grinder.

For the following video, we switched things up and filmed in a real live club (Coney Island High), but again in January, and since it was filmed mostly starting at like 8AM, again it was very cold.

The video after that was filmed the next day, in the meat packing district in NYC, in the rain. In January.

That was the last video I ever did. I fucking hate the fucking things.

Yeah man odd future is getting some attention.

Did you know they got booked in London without ever playing a show.

Amazing.

I like the 4chan skateboarding hiphop combo.

Staying on topic...

CR how was the gig?

Awesome I bet.

**puffer** (2011-02-20):

@bongo_x You mean 'black cows'?

@boobs Hot shit! being the old, and being generally clueless, means I'm oft late to the party on cool shit. So, new to me. Damn. Hotness. http://oddfuture.tumblr.com/

@puffer Shut up, dude.

**mitchell** (2011-02-20):

@boobs: I'm with ya... this is even worse... I play a cover gig weekly with a four-piece band, all live, no tracks. Two keyboards controlling Mainstage on my Macbook, and people do the same shit to me. They can't get it through their thick heads that just because there's music occurring (mostly very non-electronic standard rock music at that) and a guy standing in the vicinity of a laptop, that does not mean I'm a fucking DJ. You'd think the constant motion of fingers on the black and white things would be a clue (as would the fact that the only time I touch the computer or look at it is between songs).
