As you've probably guessed by the lack of pithy posting, I'm in one of those super-busy times that always seem to occur around August/September/October. Just trying to plow through this mountain of work, keeping my head down. Some updates:

1\. The iOS app I'm doing under contract is nearly finished, so I'll have that out of my hair soon.

2\. I'm about 3/4 done with the next micronaut E.P., tentatively entitled "analogical." That name is kind of Captain Obvious, given the paradigm of the record, though, and I'm not completely sold on it. This collection of songs is, while not strictly analog as such (the alphaSyntauri and iPad both make appearances, and the CMU-800R is used for all sequencing) about as close as you're gonna get to 100% these days. No DAW, no MIDI, recorded to and mixed from tape. It should be up on my Bandcamp page by the end of the week.

3\. The next Audio Damage product is moving in to the home stretch. We (and by "we" I mean Adam) have all the difficult pieces done, and now it's just a matter of hooking everything up and tidying up the UI. No time frame yet, but watch my Twatstream for leaks and such, as that's where I tend to do such things. I will say that this plug will definitely be from the VST3 base; hopefully this entire operation is problem-free and we've got our building framework for the next couple years. We won't be porting our existing line to VST3, but assuming this works out, all future products will be built using this system.

That's it for now. Open thread! What's on your mind? First person to post gets to set the topic.

oooh a topic setting opportunity - OK so does any one have any ideas on backing up spoken word pieces in a live setting - what works best? - do I get a compressor and side chain in the voice to duck the sound???

any others with experience? Happy Sunday AM

**boobs** (2011-08-14):

for backing up spoken word pieces what you need is an accordion and a roland space echo... or course some massive compression and perhaps some bit reduction.

**legrandgazou** (2011-08-14):

Any hints on what the next AD plugin will be?

**boobs** (2011-08-14):

i think it's a synth that does dubstep/bro step bass ;)

**boobs** (2011-08-15):

anyone here still seeking out *new* weird experimental electronic music?

or has the everything through a side chain house or wobblecore sledgehammer to the face or 80s synth pop young person cock cheese or (insert whatever here) genre gurding your musical loins?

i guess this is a "wtf electronic music are you listening to/excited about" question

i'm digging the new phoenecia *A LOT* - "demissions" and some random tracks i've grabbed here and there.

**renderful** (2011-08-15):

Thanks for the link, boobs! I'm still on the search, although lately I've been kind of in Detroit-land, going back over so many releases between the late 80's and mid 90's that I missed from the Belleville 3 and other Detroit locals.

This also includes some releases from Kyle Hall, who is a new Detroit guy, apparently. Also, Kettel's Myam James Parts 1 and 2 are occupying me pretty well lately, for semi-recent releases. His range reminds me a lot of Aphex's, although he covers that range in a single album.

The Detroit research has led me to some new acid, and so I've bought a few albums from Rusuden: http://music.rusuden.com/

**VSTJuNkiE** (2011-08-15):

is the new AD plug the multi effects thing you were talking about a while (months?) ago? Or is it a new AD instrument?

**Chris Randall** (2011-08-15):

The new plug is an effect, not an instrument. And as far as I am aware, I have never talked about making such a thing. There are plenty on the market, already; this isn't a new invention. However, ours will be both inexpensive and awesome, which separates it from the herd quite a bit.

Anyone else have that song from "The Muppet Movie" stuck in their heads now?

**VSTJuNkiE** (2011-08-15):

Just to show I'm not insane:

"So, this product, as yet unnamed, will be a multi-effect consisting of the engines of Liquid, Fluid, Vapor, and Phase Two."

August.30.2010

But, in my defense I missed this:

"Yeah, we've been discussing it all morning, and we're actually of the current opinion that we're going to bag this idea, frankly. "

Bummer!

**VSTJuNkiE** (2011-08-15):

@ seancostello

No. But I had Madonnas' "Material Girl" stuck in my head for 5(!) hours once @ work... don't ask...

**unitard** (2011-08-15):

I have a random feature request that is applicable to all the AD plugs. In addition to dragging a knob or slider to the desired value, can you add the functionality to double-click on a numeric value and then type the number into the plug-in interface? This would save time and help all of us anal retentive users who like using round numbers.

I've been meaning to ask about this for ages. Thanks!

**Chris Randall** (2011-08-15):

@unitard: we tried to add that to our numericals in this go-round, but it turned in to a giant travesty almost instantly. This scared us. We are easily frightened by UI problems.

**mitchell** (2011-08-15):

I too have "Material Girl" stuck in my craw all the time, but that's 'cuz I play it four nights a week. Could be worse, I could be playing the Muppet song.

**inteliko** (2011-08-15):

Every time I have Roy Orbison stuck in my head I think my wife is pregnant shortly after. Babymakin music.

**legrandgazou** (2011-08-15):

"There are plenty on the market, already; this isn't a new invention."

As long as it's not another delay... I love delay FX, but I got all the I need for now in the delay department.

**Chris Randall** (2011-08-15):

BITE YOUR TONGUE! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH DELAY!

That said, no, it is not a delay.

**VSTJuNkiE** (2011-08-16):

Saturator?

EQ?

Multiband Compressor?

**seancostello** (2011-08-16):

Are you clearing out those eigenmodes from the corners of the room? That's where they hang out, y'know - the corners.

**bongo_x** (2011-08-16):

I'm also one of those who always inputs values with the keyboard, and never actually moves virtual knobs if I can help it. I also get annoyed if it's not the exact number I want. If there was no number I would be fine.

**bongo_x** (2011-08-19):

Oh, and I was flipping through one of my stupidly large folders of samples I've never listened to, looking for something interesting, and I found it; your alphasyntauri sample set.

Wow. Those are really good. Thank you so much.

I need to rename that to something I won't ignore.

**wgparham** (2011-08-19):

I rather like the K3, though if I was getting a digital oscillator synth with an analog filter I'd rather have an SQ80. If you program one right it almost sounds like a baby PPG. And you get polyphonic aftertouch.

The K5000 is a beast! A bitch to program until you get your head around it, but about as deep of a synth as they come. Great for long evolving sounds with all of the mod routings you can use.

I'm with boobs.

Also api modules - Played!

Dunno if this is experimental but I reckon the drumming is way out there.

Ben Walsh is one of my favourite Australian musicians and he makes a lot of electronic music. His stuff with The Bird includes an amazing tabla player too.
