ADverb Updated...
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
Audio Damage ADverb, our “vintage digital” plate, has been updated to 1.1.0. This update includes 32/64-bit Windows VST and 32/64-bit OS X VST and AU. Any remaining vestiges of PPC support have been removed, so if you think you’re getting the New Hotness for your old ‘n’ busted G4 tower, think again. Anyhow, hit the AD Store and you’ll find the new ADverb in your account if you’re already an owner. If not, I strongly suggest you buy it, because I’m of the considered opinion that the more you engage in commerce with the Audio Damage site, the more I’ll like you, and I think we should put that theory to the test.
Kombinat Dva is next out the chute, then the 64-bit version of BS2, and so on and so forth…

I'm really happpy ADverb kept its UI. It feels 'special'
:#
Yeah, that one is (in my opinion) my best 3D UI. It'd take an act of congress for me to change that one. It took _forever_ to make, and then 65 full rez renders that took about 2 hours each. After which I cut out each knob and button by hand 65 times and stitched them all together to make the filmstrips.

It is a lovely UI for sure :-)
What software did you use for the rendering?
I love the clean, user friendly look of the later UI.. PanStation, FilterStation, etc..
However I love the 3D UI's too. When you are emulating old gear.. I think the 3D interfaces suit that best...
The Adverb UI reeks of the late 80s.. DubStation is cool too.
Oh..where is the Ratshack Reverb reverb?
I used 3D Studio Max for all of our 3D UIs (Liquid, Fluid, Vapor, Kombinat, ADverb, Dubstation, the background of Ronin, etc.)
Ratshack Reverb got removed from the catalog, as it is so old, it needs a major overhaul to make it Lion compatible. It is from the same era as the first Dubstation release, and shares some of its code. Dubstation has been continually updated, as it is our second-best seller, but RR has suffered in the cheap seats, and needs a full tear-down. We can't, in good conscience, sell a product that we know doesn't work on one of our normally supported configurations.

Bummer about Ratshack...it's probably my favorite character delay. Here's to hoping it gets a major overhaul at some point. I think people may have been generally under the impression that it's an emulation of a crappy reverb, as opposed to a bad ass delay unit.
Regarding updates to the ever growing product line, I'll throw in another bump for putting full version info in your "about" pages. So much less confusing down the road, especially when minor updates come out.
I still cling to my version that is named Reverence. I love its sound and use it as my main 'verb.
Cling all you want. ;-) ADverb is exactly the same; it just has a different name. We haven't changed the DSP code at all since release.

...um.
any changes for this update?
'about' still reads 2008. not sure if there was anything updated.
No changes at all. It's just 64-bit now.

Maybe someone that Chris pays attention to on a regular basis will second the motion above. Adam? This is standard practice in the world of software development, no?
I'm still rocking "reverence" as well.
I'm with Funkybot
Hey, this works in mono as an AU, too! NIIIIIIICE!!!!
Following up on my previous post, can some of that mono-magic make it back to the DubStation AU, too?
Ahh..i see -Thanks Chris..
Oh..btw.. Phosphor is a brilliant synth.. I love it...very characterful.. and a great service to synth history..as I have never used, and am never likely to use an Apple alphaSyntauri..
I would love to see more unusual Synths by you guys..
Keep up the awesome work!! :-)))
Oh I just stick w/ Reverence for the name, though ADverb does get +1 for the pun.
Ratshack: yeah, we'll fix it up. We're trying to do these updates based upon considerations of product popularity, perceived customer demand, estimated difficulty of the update, personal whim, phase of the moon, what our cats tell us, etc. Please understand that, unlike Windows, the OS X x64 updates take a considerable amount of work. (In the case of ADverb, it was three times as much work.) Ratshack caught us by surprise; we thought that we just needed to rev the installer, so I did that, but ran into some other unexpected issues. We decided to set it aside and do an overhaul of Kombinat, which has become nearly illegible as LCDs have grown. (I tried to tell him, I really did...)
Mono ADverb: thanks for noticing. Yes, the same thing could be done with Dubstation, and I think fairly easily. I will look into it.
Version numbers: Yes, it's an excellent idea. I agree. For some reason I keep forgetting about it. (I think it's because About boxes are CR's domain.) It is now under discussion as I type this.

And another thing...
Reverence, the name: I'll admit to being proud of that one; it's one of the better product names I've coined, if I may say so myself. It was eclipsed recently by a product name I thought of for one of our esteemed colleagues--a certain dynamics processor--which came to me out of the blue as I was scooping cat boxes one evening.

Adam, thanks for responding on the version thing!
One other general suggestion -- all the AD installers want to default to a (probably) hard coded default VST folder which I have to remember to change with every install & update. It would be great if the installer could pull this location from the Windows Registry (while still allowing the user to change it). Mine isn't even on C.
Finally some love for Phase Two. One of my faves. If there was anything I would change it would be to add blend functionality which allows "more" on the wet end of things. I know it's an emulation but it seems to me that it's "set" permanently at around 60-70%.
I'd just like to mention farewell to Beatserv. Some of if not the best drum loops on the planet. Great stuff Wade! Sorry to see Beatserv go. But good luck on your new ventures (I'm sure you won't need it, though). Great love for the Beatserv beats here.
@thechrisl: yes, it would be great, but there is nothing in the Windows registry that says where the default VST folder is. I guess we could put in our own entry; I could look into that. I see your point re multiple installs and updates.
Phase Two's mix depth won't go any deeper; it's already at 100%. That was one of the interesting things about acquiring a Bi-Phase for that project: by today's standards, it's a somewhat subtle effect. Maybe we should do an emulation of the Oakley Equinoxe phase shifter with its 8-pole "Deep" modification, two of which I completed and installed in my modular recently.
--Adam
@Adam... yes! Do it! Phase Two is my all time favorite plug-in phaser. Nothing else comes close. I'd love another phaser that goes even deeper. An Oakley Equinoxe emulation sounds like it would be another great one for AD! FWIW... I'll take a great phaser over a chorus or flanger any day (but if you guys did an A/DA flanger, that'd be killerly awesome, too).
Also... have you ever checked out the Studio Electronics Modmax Filter or Phasor? A filter and phaser plug-in with the control of those units would be sum kinda awesome, too. I don't think anyone's done it in the plug-in world yet. Not too many hardware units do it that I'm aware of (I have the Phasor pedal... very cool box).
Oh, yeah... and I'm way on the Ratshack Reverb band wagon, too. Don't let that one go away.
I'm a Ratshack fiend. 'Cause it comes close to "Warning Sign."

Not cool to link to Talking Heads without a warning of some kind. What if I didn't have a Flash blocker and it just started playing?
??
It's great seeing all the Ratshack love in this thread.. Count me in for the lovefest. Ratshack has its uses... and for those uses, it is the King.
Also - I may be immature, but I can't help but chuckle when someone laments that you don't "Go Deeper" into their phase...
@Adam:
My Win7 registry key is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeVST
Value name: VSTPluginsPath
I don't recall how it got there. I also saw somewhere that you can set a default path at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/VST (which I didn't do).
95% of my plugins know where to go now. Why/how the installer knows that is beyond my expertise... I realize this may be a lost cause if this isn't a standard registry entry. For others, consider the above a tip when you have a lot of plugins to install...
@thechrisl: Huh. I have that entry in my registry also. Okay, next time I build an installer, I'll attempt to pre-load the target directory with that key's value.
Of course, that doesn't help 64-bit users, but I suspect that they're still in the minority.
Thanks--
