First up, you may or may not have heard but Beatserv is going out of business. Wade makes beds and background music for television as his main job, and his work has really taken off in the last few months. While this is excellent news, it means he doesn't have time to do Beatserv any more. He's doing one big throwdown before he shuts the virtual doors on the Beatserv site, so [hit that shit](http://www.beatserv.com/) and stock up before it's gone forever.

Next, I have an [Eventide Space](http://www.eventide.com/AudioDivision/Products/StompBoxes/Eventide_Space.aspx) coming, so if you were waiting for my glowing report (aside from the one I gave at NAMM) that'll be forthcoming. I have an interesting theory about the operation of that unit that I don't believe anyone has tried yet, which I'll experiment with and report on.

Finally, we'll probably have the OS X side of Filterstation wrapped up and a beta version off to the testers today. I'm finishing up the presets today, as well. If we don't run in to any more issues, RC1 will go out for its wide test this weekend, and we'll have this bitch on sale next week.

**EDIT:** The preceding paragraph is a perfect example of what is known in this business as "hubris."

That's it for right now. Keep on keepin' on.

Very interested to hear about your theory regarding the Eventide Space. In related news, I HAVE A PROBLEM.

**beauty pill** (2011-10-06):

Wade: Boo to closing! Keep Beatserv going and drop a set every once in a while, even just once a year. Make it your hobby and make releases feel like a special, rare event.

Your shit is good, yo!

Plus, the name is dope.

I just bought some of Wade's beats, so far they've made me wish I was a better drummer.

**wgparham** (2011-10-07):

Sad to hear about the end of Beatserv. Everything that came out was stellar. (h)IDM and the Kits from series two are frequently my go to drum sounds. I'm with Chad on this. Figure out some way to do a set every now and again. You know, for the fans. Probably pie in the sky, I know. The bandwidth charges have got to be fairly steep. But I can hope!

Also, now I'm forced to get the last two packs that I didn't already own. Not that I'm all upset about that!

Aww, thanks for the kind words guys. Well, unfortunately, a business doesn't run itself and I'm a do it well or forget it kind of guy. A few of the releases did well - the Series packs, Dark Downtempo - and there is a good chance I'll continue developing beats through another company. I just won't be in any way running that company ; ) Stay tuned.

**inteliko** (2011-10-07):

I will run it for loops.

**tngregory** (2011-10-07):

money well spent! just added three new sets to my previous kits that got a lot of use already. love the beatserv grit and slink and hope to keep up with your work in future endeavors. best to you and thanks for your efforts!

**Puzzlegob** (2011-10-07):

The Eventide Space is awesome, I've only had mine a few days, and only had the chance to mess with it briefly, (it turned up the day before I had to go back to work).

The Blackhole and Shimmer algorithms are amazing.

Looking forward to whatever weird jiggery-pokery you've got planned for yours.

**D' MacKinnon** (2011-10-07):

I enjoyed everything I purchased from Beatserv. It will be missed, Wade.

**studio nebula** (2011-10-07):

Having to close down one business because another business is taking off is an enviable problem. Best wishes for ongoing success, Wade!

**Wade Alin** (2011-10-08):

Thanks Adam! Well, you guys gave the the inspiration to finally do beatserv, so thx for that!

All my work is freelance, so who knows where this is all going - but I'm happy to be so busy right now.

**thehipcola** (2011-10-09):

Beatserv stuff is great! Sad it's over but congrats Wade. Love these sounds. Thanks for the heads up, Chris.

This has nothing to do with this thread, but I have often wondered how many people have been banned from AI. Like, is there a number? Does it happen often? Or rarely?

I wonder how much will it took to cultivate a reliably civilized, intelligent place of discourse. 'Cause that's how I view it.

Banning people is an interesting principle and I'm beginning to understand it, although it seems somehow anti-democratic. It essentially says "No, you're too stupid to get a voice here. You're just a clown. You gots to go. It's that simple."

But in a democracy, stupid people DO have a voice. Unfortunately.

Maybe this is another thread entirely? I don't know. This topic interests me for a few different reasons.

**Chris Randall** (2011-10-12):

In the early days, it was more often. A couple a month. Then there was a certain mentality that took over for a little while during my "Fucktard Of The Week" phase. It took me a bit to figure out that _I_ was fostering that environment via my posts, so I stopped doing those, and had a BanFest and knocked off like 30 people in one blow.

(Basically anyone that had, in the previous three months, patronized anyone else.)

Since then? Only one or two, I think. And that was several years ago. I don't think I've banned anyone in 2011 at all. Or at least if I have, then I don't recall doing it. The discussions here are usually of a highly technical nature, and the general thread the conversations follow doesn't really lend itself to the sort of "UR A HITLER GAYFAG" comments that are prevalent elsewhere.

Now, that said, I've been moderating the forums I control (here, and the long-running SMG newsgroup) since 1995, with thousands of posts and tens of thousands of comments, and I don't think I'm tooting my own horn when I say that practice does eventually lead to skill. I will humbly submit that there is more of an art than a science to creating a blog post that fosters intelligent discourse, and that while one has to have a certain narcissistic streak in order to want to do this sort of thing at all, one needs to be engaged.

I could go on in this vein for some time; I have a lot of thoughts about how one does this successfully. But I imagine that only other semi-pro bloggers will find it interesting.

**Chris Randall** (2011-10-12):

An addendum: the above only pertains to actual users, people engaging in the conversation in some manner. We get spam occasionally too, and those people are banned out of hand, usually so quickly you wouldn't even notice them. Since this is a custom blog, and not a common run-of-the-mill Wordpress or Blogger blog, we get very little content spam because the usual bots that do such things can't use their normal scripts. So each spam has to be done by hand, by a person.

Also, another thing we do to prevent spam is close anything that isn't on the front page. As soon as it rolls to the second page, nobody can comment on it.

I will pick up some Beatserv samples before the ship goes down.

I really liked the packs that I bought. They obviously had a lot of thought/love put into them. Along the same lines as the Sonic Couture stuff.

Really looking forward to filterstation.

I hope the panstation/filterstation GUI is the direction all of AD products will be going in.

I think there is a certain art (eg. Ableton) to making simple interfaces look cool; and you seem to have cracked it with panstation/filterstation.

Guess this is probably why a lot of developers make their stuff look like a piece of hardware from the sixties.

**stepwriterun** (2011-11-01):

And now beatserv is closed -- lucky for me I remembered to pick up a few of the packs during the last couple of hours.
