Closing in on Kombinat Dva's imminent release. I'm still not settled on the final UI (I may replace the crossover with a graphic, for starters) and things need a lot of touching up, but that's the general idea. It will have several more FSU engines, in addition to the feedback control I spoke about in the last post on the subject, and is a whole 'nother animal, really. You will be able to program it to duplicate the original, and it will include all the original's presets, in addition to its own collection.

Anyhow, that's what we're working on this week. Progress is Being Made.

**synthetic** (2011-11-09):

I vote graphic for the crossover. I don't think anyone would need to set their crossover for exactly 815Hz, they're just going to do it by feel. (Of course my vote doesn't count because you're already about to murder me over another product.)

**Computer Controlled** (2011-11-09):

LOVE the graphics! One of my faves by far! =o]

**Chris Randall** (2011-11-09):

Your vote always counts, Jeff. ;-)

What you can't see in this screenshot is the quasi-cool animation the front panel is always undergoing, and the live-action About splash.

So the three dark 'controls' on the top are not controls then? Love the graphics, but I was about to comment that these were to dark. That's moot now I guess.

**Chris Randall** (2011-11-09):

They're level meters.

**ariston** (2011-11-09):

Nice look, looking forward to giving it a spin.

Although I've got several distortion flavours by now, I turn to Kombinat quite frequently. There's something about it the others don't have - not the least the ease of use.

**characterstudios** (2011-11-09):

Ah cool. In that case, sweet :D

**bleen** (2011-11-09):

Looks great! I love the current direction of GUI design that you have - I'm SO over the "let's make it look like hardware" thing....

**dyscode** (2011-11-09):

I like the numbers!

some numerical feedback display is always appreciated. For this is not hardware - display costs are not part of the budget here. And just in case I want to to something technical with it. So why restricting it.

**shamann** (2011-11-09):

"Your vote always counts, Steve. ;-)"

Yes!

Since my vote always counts: on the one hand, I like crossover controls as graphics, but in this instance I think having the level meters and the crossover graphics at the top there might look busy. So I'd vote graphics only if it doesn't over do things, because I like the look as is.

I'd also vote for a wet/dry control in the master section, in a pie-in-the-sky, dream-a-little-dream sort of way.

Can't wait to try out the new distortion models though.

**Chris Randall** (2011-11-09):

You know how I feel about wet/dry controls.

I set all my controls to exact amounts. It's my version of OCD. Definitely not 815 though. I'm fine if there are no numbers, then I don't think about it, but the worst is graphic controls with exact numerical readout that you can't set to specific values. That's just being mean.

A good compromise is the old fashioned showing the high and low values with nothing in between. In general though, I'm much happier just entering values with the keyboard. I know where I want the crossover set and I don't want to deal with a fiddly knob or slider if I don't have to.

As I mix more in the box I've also become a fan of the wet/dry knob. In my mind it just becomes an aux send that I didn't have to set up. (of course my vote doesn't count because, nevemind...)

"You know how I feel about wet/dry controls."

Come on, I'm dreaming a little dream here. I find them handy, but in truth I'm perfectly okay being more disciplined in my sending.

**quantize** (2011-11-10):

I love Kombinat, often magic on drums and just about anything else...very exciting update!

btw is this the ClockDVA tribute edition ;-)

**Chris Randall** (2011-11-10):

@quantize: It is the Russian word for "two." Not a fan of ClockDVA over here. There would be no "tribute."

-CR

**Michael Moncur** (2011-11-10):

quantize: you're not the only one who thought of ClockDVA. I had to go watch the video for "the hacker" on YouTube. Haven't heard that since I found a 12" single buried in a discount bin in the late 80s.

New Kombinat looks great by the way!

**quantize** (2011-11-10):

Ha that's two strikes against you Chris! (New Order was #1..

tsk tsk Industrial Music demerit!

;-P

**DBM** (2011-11-10):

Damn , can I just start a tab with AD ? lol

Anyway looks pretty sweet . The original has been a go to distortion for me in the past and this version looks very promising ...If it's not to late in the game it might be interesting to add a wave shaper in there somewhere to ;)

**legrandgazou** (2011-11-10):

+1 for the new UI

**renderful** (2011-11-10):

Jawesome, I've really been getting a lot out of Kombinat lately. It has made me realize how useful multiband effects can be. I really enjoy running a sequence with a bit of dynamic range through it while modifying the crossover section.

**analogcre8or** (2011-11-10):

Looks great, can't wait to check out all the new stuff while still being able to do the old. Fickle Ohmicide will prob. see less usage now.

**Table Man** (2011-11-11):

Looks great ! Although that particular deep red, whilst ok as text/label background, is possibley too dark for the interactive elements..like the filter envelope and the meters.. from a usability point of view... (imho)

But hey .. I'll be purchacing this no matter what the colour scheme.. :-))))

**MtL** (2011-11-15):

Chris, have you said what the upgrade price is?
