Bootleg audio of this have been making the rounds for years, but I've never seen the video. I imagine Warner Bros. will have this taken down in short order, so enjoy it while you can: the entire nearly 14-minute live recording that forms the basis of the album version of Purple Rain, complete with commentary.

I'm not to proud to admit this made my day. What a piece of music, and what a lucky audience.

**EDIT:** Well, that didn't last long. By the time I refreshed this page, it had been taken down. You'll have to find a boot, I guess. Spoiler alert: the song has four verses in this version, and the guitar solo is twice as long.

**EDIT 2:** See the comments for a link to one someone grabbed from YouTube.

Prince is so fast ! His shadow already removed the video before he started to play...

Not my favorite Prince song, but that guy is pretty amazing, whatever his faults as a person. I had no idea any of this was live.

I was/am a minor fan, but I sometimes look back on artists I somewhat took for granted back when I was younger and am amazed at how talented they were. Would he be able to even get a record deal today?

Multiple chill inducing video. Thanks, gentlemen.

**bub** (2012-02-18):

That was me doing the ''Oooowww". Time for a law suit.

**noisegeek** (2012-02-18):

Yeah, that made my day too.

Whatever his eccentricities, the man is on another level entirely when it comes to music. Incredible.

**analogcre8or** (2012-02-19):

Oh, that one brings back memories... Thanks for sharing this historic moment... I had no idea.

**legrandgazou** (2012-02-19):

Wow, thanks for sharing this... never saw it before.

**MMI** (2012-02-21):

I was a teen still living at home with the folks when I saw the movie. I was into "cooler" things and not really a fan but this was able to break through that teenage indifference...

**afreshcupofjoe** (2012-02-22):

Wow, that was an incredible performance. Thanks for sharing this.

**jwcase** (2012-02-22):

Also, the next we find ourselves bitching about bare mic cabinets, we should remember that this vocal performance was captured on an SM-58 (or some such) that had been adjusted with a hammer to the fucking windscreen.

If your performance is this jizzy, my guess is that it would be difficult to fuck it up with a microphone.

**jwcase** (2012-02-22):

well - seeing the end i notice the housing at the base of the windscreen has little arches on it - def not a 58...one of those AKG dynamic joints?
