I just want to say at this juncture that this was exceedingly difficult. In order to keep from exhibiting any favoritism for people I know, I removed the names and numbered all the tracks, 1 through 92. I then put them on a spare iPod, so they were the only tracks on that device, and used the star rating system to get the final list.

I ended up with 17 five-star tracks, and the last few days I've been experimenting with flow and different combinations, and I think I ended up with 10 that are all forward-looking tracks that are mildly experimental (or wildly, in two cases) and give a good cross-section of the electronic music scene, without being too genre-specific. There is only one track in the ten that anyone would immediately ascribe a specific genre to, but as that genre is deep house, it's all good. Because deep house is the best electronic music genre, as everyone knows. And even with that context, it still manages to push the envelope, in both production and songwriting.

In the interests of full disclosure, I'll admit the following: I made my own submission at the beginning of the process, but by the end, I didn't think that my own could hang with any 10 of the 17 I chose from the other submissions, so I did a new one. Since I'm the one that has to do all the hard work here, I hope you won't begrudge me that bit of license.

So, with that mea culpa out of the way, here's the list, and this is in no order at this point. It is just the ten tracks I selected. There are physical constraints to how the LP is constructed, and that will inform the final track listing.

1\. Ancient Young - Silica Resonance
2\. Milkfish - It's Happening Too Late
3\. Bitmud - All The Beauty Is Gone
4\. Chris Randall - Compilator
5\. Goldbaby - Ten OP
6\. Jukebox - Objects In The Mirror...
7\. Pauk - Here She Comes
8\. Russian Corvette - Pattern Recognition
9\. Sabama - Doublethink
10\. Anodize - Bismuth

If you're on that list, I'll be contacting you about getting a master to me and how we'll be moving forward. If you're not on that list, and you plan on putting your track out in any of the various platforms we do such things, hold off for a little bit, as I have seven alternates, and I want to make sure these tracks are all good to go before moving to the next step.

Anyhow, congratulations to the other nine, and to all of you. Now comes the hard part.

I'm looking forward to this, and I'm really hoping I like them better than my track so I don't feel so bad about not getting it in on time. Actually, by definition, they are better than my track, because they were in on time.

I'm still kind of stunned by the sheer number though.

**boobs** (2012-03-02):

congrats on 'getting there'. in a handful (or two handfuls?) of months it'll be nice to hear the final product. i hope it all goes smoothly.. like magic!

**parma** (2012-03-02):

care to list the "alternates"?

**Chris Randall** (2012-03-02):

I'd rather not, if it's all the same to everyone else. This already wasn't a lot of fun, and there's no sense adding another layer of woulda-coulda-shoulda to the pile.

Personal curiosity is all. Just wanted to know if I was among the honorable mentions.

**MikeF** (2012-03-02):

Ouch! I guess I won't be quitting my day job. At least I actually finished a track for a change instead of just noodling around like a usually do.

Congratulations to the winners!

**D' MacKinnon** (2012-03-02):

Congrats to all made the comp! Can't wait to hear the release.

**puffer** (2012-03-02):

Very cool. Looking forward to hearing the end result.

**DylanGleason** (2012-03-02):

Looking forward to hearing this! Thanks for considering my submission.

**pepezabala** (2012-03-02):

great to see Pauk there. If it's the Pauk here from Cataluña, north of spain, he's definetly one of the more impressing live performers of IDM/breaks/monome-music that I have seen ever.

**metaphysician** (2012-03-02):

well, i'm pretty much flabbergasted at the moment, as well as honored that an outside lurker like myself would even be considered, much less selected as one of the finalists. always felt i was a bit more on the outside looking in as it were (experimental improviser turned electronic musician). anyway, looking forward to whatever may come...

**Mike Nickel** (2012-03-02):

Can't wait to hear the new Milkfish track!!

**DGillespie** (2012-03-02):

This is really cool. It's exciting to hear that there were so many great entries, I can't wait to hear the final product.

**Chris Randall** (2012-03-02):

@pepezabala: It's an interesting piece of music, too. Definitely in line with what he normally does, but with a bit more production. It has the distinction of being the fastest piece of music in the collection, as well. I was actually a little bit afraid that all the submissions would be tailored to what you guys think I like, and that means 80-100bpm abstract techno. When his track showed up (very early; it was like the 5th one I got) my fears of that were completely set aside.

I've spent much of my free time today searching for and listening to the artists of the top 9. I've heard nothing yet that was less than brilliant. Also, I'm w/ Mike Nickel, though I'm curious why the brain (?) of myspace wants to play Disturbed and SOAD and Green Day along w/ Milkfish. Can't wait to rock this comp---congrats to all y'all.

**Table Man** (2012-03-03):

congrats to all... can't wait to hear this record. :)

**freesoulvw** (2012-03-03):

I want- The FatJuno-6

**hydrogen jukebox** (2012-03-03):

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing all these as well! I didn't even pony up a submission, so it's easy for me to type this, but kudos to all who did send something in. And thanks to CR for doing it in the first place!

**rocketattack** (2012-03-04):

It was a very cool project. Can't wait to hear the final 10.
