Back in 2018, this blog was 15 years old, and I was getting seriously burnt out. For some reason, I thought the solution would be moving to Patreon. Spoiler: that was not the solution. I managed to keep that going for 2 years, but those two years were some fairly rough ones. Lost my mom and both my grandparents, both of our cats, and oh, yeah, we had a pandemic. I just couldn't even. So I didn't.

Fast forward a couple four years, and I find that I miss this ol' site. So I dragged it out of the archives, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and here we are. Almost all the original posts were saved; I even managed to get a few of the very early Media Temple ones out of the Wayback Machine. The reason it starts at the beginning of 2004 instead of the beginning of 2003 is that the first year of posts predates the Internet Archive, and I don't personally have a copy.

If you have a look at the About page, you'll see a mea culpa in place; if, for some reason, you want to go spelunking back to the early days, you'll come across language and attitudes that don't necessarily mesh with our modern set of morals. I was, to put it mildly, a bit of a dick in my 30s, and the record reflects this. (Also my 40s, and currently, fwiw. I have not learned to suffer foolishness quietly in the last 20 years.)

Anyhow, welcome back if you were one of the original crew! Most of your comments have been saved as well. If you're new here, Analog Industries is a fairly in-depth document of and colorful commentary on music tech from 2003 to today. I look forward to heading in to the breach once more. We have some very interesting times in front of us, and it feels good to shout about it.

Had some lively discussions in the comment threads here, years back... happy to see it again, as some thoughtful observations have stuck in my head.

putting this site in my feed reader like it's 2010

Very cool. Kinda too bad the earliest posts were lost but "predates the Internet Archive" has a certain cachet.
