Samples-a-poppin'...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

It may come as a shock to you completionists out there, but I’m still moving. Hopefully, this nonsense will be over Saturday, and I can return to my previous lifestyle, which generated, like, income and stuff.

Until that heady day comes to pass, I’m exceedingly out of the loop. I mean that in a somewhat literal sense, as you’ll soon be able to piece together, and we’ll laugh and laugh. It seems that in the last several days there has been quite a bit of action on the sample-set front. (“within the sample set” was my first choice of phrasing there, but I thought it might be a little oblique.) It seems that two of our favorite sample providers have had Stuff that has Happened this week. I’d like to apologize in advance to the companies, the both of which are good friends of mine, for lumping them all together and providing almost no information you can’t just make up yourself, but I’m so exhausted I can barely type, let alone poop out coherent sentences.

Goldbaby Vinyl Drum Machines. It seems Hugo has run out of tape, and has turned to a new medium. I’m all for it, and downloading now, but I dearly hope he doesn’t turn to 1st gen MiniDisc next. (“FLAC Drum Machines!”) That said, this has all the earmarks of being the coolest of the sets he’s done. I say that without having listened to any of the samples yet, of course. Long story short, it seems he’s made dub plates of various drum sounds, then sampled those in his normal unimpeachable style. Product page is here. US$29.00.

Puremagnetik Bender. This is, as the name implies, a sample set of circuit-bent Stuff. I could probably do without ever hearing a fucked up Speak ‘n’ Spell again ever in my entire whole life, but that aside, this is probably fairly usable. The download just finished on this. Product page is here. It’s a micropak, and thus part of their subscription, which is well worth the money, in my opinion.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Soniccouture also did something interesting this week, or has something interesting coming, but in perusing my email and their site, I can find no mention of it. So, apologies to James et al if I for some reason missed something I should by all rights be talking about, but moving seems to lower my IQ significantly.
