Look Upon My Rack, Ye Mighty, And Despair...

A New Addition To The Rack…

If Ozymandias made electronic music instead of, say, sandstone temples and war against the Hitittes and shit, this is what his rack would have looked like, I’d like to think. Except for the one final piece (a PCM91), I’ve pretty much reached the end of the road vis-a-vis my digital lifestyle, with the addition of that shiny new H8000FW.

I’ve only had it hooked up for a couple hours now, so I am in no way qualified or able to give even a minimal review. I will say, however, that the likelihood of me complaining about it in the foreseeable future is essentially nil. Initial experimentation seems to lead me to the conclusion that there are very few multi-FX boxes even in the same league as this, and none that I’ve owned or used.

It is, in short, God In A Box.

I’ll admit in all candor that, despite having what could only be termed as “decades” of experience around professional equipment, this box is a bit above my pay grade, and it is a weird combination of elation and slight embarrassment that I’m feeling right now. But I’ll wallow in the former and swallow the latter, as is my wont.

Now it’s time to sell some tracks so I can somehow pay for this cocksucker.

Holy Farking Christ! That thing is expensive. I am happy for you that you did get it, I know you'll get tons of use out of it. I really pisses me off when people buy equipment because it's cool, and just let it gather dust in a rack somewhere and never even bother to turn it on.

Thee gods looked down upon us mere mortals with envy, for we had the chance to rock that shit with the Eventide.

Heh, why dont you ask Adam to turn it into a RTAS plugin?

    Can't be that hard right.....

There's no chance that this won't get used, I'll say that much. I've wanted one of these since there was one, and the Orville before that.

On the other hand, it does look fairly cool. ;-)

Wow, i've just checked out some of the demos on the Eventide website. This box sounds absolutely stunning. Have fun!

Is the Bricasti still on your wishlist?

    It's on mine.

I sure would like it, but I simply can't afford it any more, at least until I, like, have a hit record and stuff. This thing is my gear budget for all of 09 and 10, wrapped up in one 2U unit.

OK - here's some advice regarding the eventide - always look at the unit when you press a button.
there have been a couple of times when i've been tapping through the presets and turned my head to check out a synth settings etc and my finger has slipped position and i've accidentally tapped the wrong button - 45 mins later we're still trying to work out why there's no sound anymore......i know how to read manuals but that thing's manual is monumental

two years of gear budget in two units of rack space.

I can't say I'm not jealous though. My gear budget for the year basically consists of a bunch of plugins (some of them yours) and hopefully I'll have enough to switch from logic to ableton live once 8 is out (I'll be keeping logic too, of course. It's too cheap not to, and I have some friends who use it or garageband that I want to collab with from time to time) and to get some noiseless single coils for my telecaster.

whenever anyone mentions the H8000 i immediately think of that fabulous audio demo by some European dude. he runs through a series of presets before dialing up a particularly pitchshift-&-evolving-spatial-fucker-delay rich patch.

'now pliss believe me', he says before singing. 'all zis is just... one... fucking... Eventide'.
