The Gift That Keeps On Giving...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

This week has just been awesome. And I don’t mean “awesome” in the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure sense of the word, but rather the dictionary sense.

awesome |ˈôsəm|
adjective
extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear : the awesome power of the atomic bomb.

I set aside two specific days this week (today was the second of those two) where my PC, which is the box I do the vast majority of my work for AD on, would be disassembled and thus unusable. We had to time the operation with a certain amount of finesse, as we’re getting close to the finish line on BS2 and there’s not a real big window I could pull this whole thing off.

So yesterday I disassembled and moved my PC and the rack that goes with it up to our new place in Portland, and got a long ways towards re-assembling it. I was going to finish the rebuilding tomorrow. Note the tense of that sentence, as it is fairly important to this whole story. I am not in either Mill City or Portland, but rather 350 miles to the east in Spokane, Washington. My mother got taken to the hospital Monday afternoon with fainting spells and chest pains. Turns out, she’s gonna need to have heart surgery, so the hospital in Idaho sent her here to Sacred Heart in Spokane. Those of you that follow my Twitter feed know all about this, of course, and thanks for the well wishes.

Anyhow, here I sit. Lovely weather, too. Theoretically, the surgery will happen on Friday. I can’t say one way or another when I’ll be back in Portland, or Mill City to finish our move for that matter. My wife is safely ensconced in our new place, along with Pablo and Chica. The only thing she’s missing is furniture, really.
