Replicant 1.5 Now Available...
From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.
As the title says, Replicant 1.5 is now available in the AD store. This is a free update for all registered owners. Here’s what’s new (taken from the manual):
Completely redesigned user interface. Knobs, which are poorly suited to fine control on a computer
screen, have been replaced by numerical controls, horizontal sliders, and two-dimensional “XY” pad controls.
MIDI triggering. Replicant can now be triggered by MIDI note messages. You can “play” Replicant from a MIDI keyboard and/or sequence triggers in your DAW with notes.
MIDI Learn. This effect has MIDI Learn like all our products, but we have added it to the AudioUnit as well; if your AudioUnit host allows sending MIDI to an insert effect, Replicant AU will respond to MIDI Learn just like the VST always has.
Also too, the Windows installer throws the 64-bit version. The Mac versions are now Intel only, 10.5 or greater, like all our newer shit. Whack that image, go forth, and get your new hotness.

Wow, looks amazing. MIDI learn for AU, sweet. Cheers for getting rid of knobs, I've always thought they were bad UI for software.
I've been using the MIDI triggering function for a few days now, and it is one of the coolest things that I have ever played with. Setting the Random and Selected Beat controls to 0% and triggering the effect by MIDI works so great on vocals. You can really pick and choose which words or phrases to glitch out. You can really make a vocal line as intelligible or as whacked out as you like.
Other than that, the UI is much easier to look at. It's much easier to look at from a bit of distance and see what is going on. But whenever I look at the plugin now, I keep looking at the blank spaces. I really want to know what the features that are going there will be...

Yeah, if I'm able to avoid ever using a knob again, I'll be happy. As we update our whole product line, all the flat interfaces will get this style (theoretically.) The 3D ones (Phase Two, Dubstation, Ratshack Reverb, etc.) will remain as they are, of course, since that's part and parcel to their charm.
These numericals are a monster of a pain in the arse to deal with, programmatically, but I think the payoff is well worth it. There's no point in having a numerical display _and_ a knob. They're still a little tweaky with a laptop trackpad, but we're working on that.

I'm gonna get all mushy here and extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who bought Replicant 1.0. Without you there would be no 1.5.
