I was just merrily uploading old video clips of SMG live shows to YouTube, and this particular one got me thinking. If you're not familiar with the catalog of Sister Machine Gun (and frankly, for the most part, I…
Now, I'm a fair-weather Portishead fan, I'll be honest. I, like many, like Glorybox but not much else. I have to say that they're smokin' a lot of weed in prep for their new album, if this little film is any indication…
Finally took the plunge and got a PowerCore X8 from AudioMidi. It should be here on Monday or so, and I'll offer up some pithy comments. For the PoCo owners out there, what are the must-have additional plugs? I have a…
Adam's "inner geek" aside, sometimes computers make me want to go out and kill things. Is there a way to insert a DVD in to a Macintosh and select, say, Chapter 1, and select, say, "Save as FLV", press "Go," and come…
...but how on Earth does someone walk out of Musikmesse with a god damn Minimoog under their arm? I've heard tales from others in the industry that the "public day" of Musikmesse was the day all your shit was stolen…
I have to drive my wife to the airport in Portland today, and while I'm in PDX I'm gonna visit some music stores and what-not, so this'll be an open thread. The subject: what's your whacky desire for a plug-in? Anything…
Yes, it's true that I've said nasty things about NI's Kore product line in the past, but having labored through the tutorial videos (the which are hosted by the single most uninspiring person in the music industry) and…
Dear Digidesign: Could you stop being so lame? I know that's a tall order, but I also know it's possible. I can think of lots of largish (to me) audio software companies that aren't lame. Ableton and Native Instruments…
I cracked the god-damn neck on my J-Bass. That sucks. Well, not the neck so much; really the headstock. Right from where the nut is on the low side to the center of the hole for the E tuner. This doesn't really affect…
In my normal Sunday morning trawl of the NYT (which differs from my daily trawl of the NYT inasmuch as I generally don't read the op-ed shit on a weekday) I came across this amusing piece. In it, the author describes…
I'm going snowboarding today, largely because I can, so this is an open thread. The topic: as was mention often and vigorously in the previous thread (but one), I've made a reasonable career despite having the…
And I just wanna say "Big Up!" to our Melanesian Massive. Who is that one person from New Caledonia?
darklordjames just turned me on to this article, which has apparently been making the rounds of the creative community today. (And with good reason.) Obviously, I have some thoughts about this, but first things first…
Can "pondering" be pluralized? Any grammar Nazis out there that want to correct me? Shit, I'm digressing before I've even started pondering. Anyhow... The previous discussion came to mind because I have undertaken a…
Here is an example of how the Bullshit Detector of your average musician gets defeated by gearlust. I'm as guilty as anyone, of course, and the test is not double-blind, scientific in the least, or verified. I have a…
